German tried to wipe out as many enemies as they could because the Germans thought killing more soldiers would stop the Allies. The German commander chose the French city of Verdun to fight. In this war the French lost about 300,000 lives. And the Germans lost almost as many as the French did , about 280,000 men's lives. After losing this many lives they finally called off the unsuccessful attack. This battle is remembered as a symbol of the gross destructiveness of modern warfare.

The Battle of Normandy took place in World War II (June, 6th 1944), also known as D-Day. The allies needed to invade the western part of Europe and many soldiers were dispatched to this beach front. It was between the Allies nations (U.S., British, Canadians) and the German Nazi's. Normandy beach is located in France. Without this battle they would've lost many soldiers and they needed to start taking the land of the Germans because of the concentration camps located within the area, they needed to liberate north west Europe. 425,000+ lives were taken between both allies and the Germans, mostly the Germans took more fire power with more deaths than the Allies.
