The law is a system of rules put in place to try and keep the population in agreement for a set of rules to follow. When these rules are broken, punishments are given to the perpetrator to make them pay back for their crime. Although deviance can be positive it can also be negative and dangerous depending on the scenario.

Deviance can prevent functionality within many aspects of life. Whether its within a relationship, in school, not following instructions having deviant behaviour can cause disarray within a structure and prevent its productivity. This is not to say that all systems are perfect and none need restructuring. Deviant behaviour in itself hinders the functionality of the system which someone or something is being deviant in.

Deviance is not necessarily being right or wrong but choosing a direction and or path thats different from the majority. Everyone in this image is going right, however there is one individual going left. There is no sign that states to go right but most people are choosing too. Deviance can create inspiration and lead to new creations because there is an alternate perspective.

Think Outside the Box

Thinking outside the box or being deviant of normal behaviour has led to many inventions throughout the world. Most innovations such as new technology has stemmed from some form of deviant behaviour. This is because most things have a system or structure which is the base. In order to make something better or more than it requires creativity and being able to think outside of the box. This can be seen as deviant behaviour in the sense that someone could restructure a system and change some steps in order to try and make something better instead of using the same cookie cutter base that has been used all the time.

Right or Wrong? Formal or Informal?

There are times when deviant behaviour is not right or wrong. Deviant behaviour can simply be something which is different but does not go against any rule or law. There are formal and informal deviant behaviours. Formal deviance usually has a right or wrong behaviour which is enforced by the law. Informal deviance can have a grey area where there is no right or wrong behaviour. An example could be giving someone a thumbs up. In some cultures this may be seen as rude whereas in others it may not be an issue. Deviance depends on the social environment and the context in which the action is being considered
