In the story, The Monkey's Paw, the character, Mrs. WHite goes through many changes when a monkey's paw is brought into her house. One piece of dialog that proves how Mrs. White changes over time is when she states, "“Did you give him anything for it, father?” inquired Mrs. White, regarding her husband closely"(50 Jacobs). This is showing how at the beginning of the story, Mrs. White is very cautious and well mannered. She is very proper and doesn't really want to use the monkey's paw. Near the end of the story, Mrs. White starts to go crazy and just wants to use the paw non stop. To prove this statement, the text states, "“It’s my boy; it’s Herbert!” she cried, struggling mechanically. “I forgot it was two miles away. What are you holding me for? Let go. I must open the door”(137 Jacobs). This is showing how by the end of the story, she is not showing her husband with respect, but screaming at him to let her go so she can go see her dead son who she thinks is at the door. The monkey's paw really effected her and her actions and made her into this un proper, screaming wife, who believes that a paw brought back her dead son. This is why the dialog in the Monkey's Paw is so important in the character's development.
