I was somewhat surprised with my results. Especially since I am a single female, who is the primary caregiver of my son. However, I did grow up in a two parent household where my dad was the breadwinner for the majority of my life. Maybe that is why my automatic response associated the male with career and female with family. I want to believe that my automatic response will change the older I get and become more involved in my own career. In the future, my automatic response may associate female with career and family.

Reflection on Implicit Bias Tests

I think we all have stereotypes and implicit biases in our brains based on experiences that we have had with a certain group of people. This affects the way we interact and communicate with other people because we are very quick to categorize them in order to prepare ourselves for the interaction we think we’re about to have. It can also lead to unfair exclusionary discipline practices, such as suspension and expulsion.
