We chose to do Yolo because you only live once. This was our inspiration because you want to live life to the fullest. Our learning targets and goals were combining art and pre engineering into one project. First we had to research and find what our design is going to be. then we had to do a rough draft to scale. Then we painted our board white and splatted paint on it. After that we drilled holes in our board and nailed down Yolo. After that we did the string art. We are going to display it in the front of the school to let everyone know on there way into school You only live once. Overall the project was fun and cool to collaborate with the other class.

I decided to do a map of the united states and put a heart were Kansas City is. I chose to do this because I feel like sometimes here, in the United States we forget that we are all one nation and we aren't all that different from each other and we're all one nation. My inspiration for this piece was originally suppose to a map of the whole world but I decided against it did a map of the US instead. My goal for this project was to show and elaborate peace in some form. My learning target was to use both art qualities and as well as Pre-engineering properties. The first step that I made to make my string art piece was finding a picture/inspiration. Once a found my inspiration, I made a grid on a larger piece of paper and copied my design onto it. After I copied my design I found a block of wood and sanded it. Once it was sanded I applied a coat of grey acrylic paint over it. I then brought a third piece grid paper and traced my design a onto it a third time as well. I used math while tracing it as I had to scale up to made sure the sizing was proportional. I hammered nails into my wood with the grip paper still on it and later removed it. I lastly took my embroidery thread and threaded it around the nails. I would like to hang my string art piece near the front entrance of our school because I feel as if some of the walls are very plain and it will spark some color into them.

My inspiration for this project was a video I called somebody a writing peace in calligraphy. I decided that I wanted to try to do that myself, but change it up a bit, so I changed the A into a heart and changed the handwriting.
Learning targets/goals for this project are to learn how to graph drawings and use real life items (pre-engineering) to create art. First, I graphed my picture. Once I was done I painted my board grey. Then I screwed in my nails. And once I was done with that I tied strings to nails and laced with them around the picture. It is important to use math to graph the picture and aline the nails correctly. It is important to you and you nearing it to create the wood and nails, and art to create the idea and string the strings through the picture. I'm proposing to put my string art above the stairs in the explo hall.
My impression of this project was that I learned how to graph art to change it into the size you would like.

In order to choose my inspiration for this project, I thought about our theme, peace, and how we can achieve it. I decided since the kids and teens nowadays are going to be the ones ruling the world soon, my project should somehow relate to teens today. I thought a hand doing a peace sign would be a good idea, because that is very relevant today. Learning Targets for this project include collaborating with students from other classes, showing the idea of peace, and to go through the artistic planning process. To complete my project, first I sketched out my peace sign on grid paper I made. Next I chose my wood, and sanded it. To make my sketch math the size of my wood, I then had to redraw my sketch and scale it down. After I completed that I drilled holes and nailed my nails into the wood. Finally when I was finished with all that, I was able to string my design. I made a few mistakes along the way but I learned from them, and overall I think I did a good job. I was my artwork to be located in the artwork display shelfs for a little, then take it home. I think this will contribute to the school because it will help spread the idea of peace. My overall impression of this project was I thought it was fun, and well thought out. If I had to do it again, I would change a few mistakes I made, like doing so many nails, and I would collaborate with a group. I had fun and learned a lot about pre-engineering while doing this project.

Our inspiration for the project was a meditating man with lots of colors because we wanted to bring peace and well-being into Leawood Middle. The learning targets we met for this project were representing peace, collaborating with pre-engineering students and art students, and add decoration into the school. We represented peace by making our silhouette of a man meditating finding his inner peace. We collaborated with the pre-engineering students by learning how to use a drill and attach two pieces of wood. The art portion of the collaboration was learning how to apply the colors in a way that was visually appealing. The first thing we did was found inspiration. We walked around the school and searched google images until we decided on the meditating man. Next we chose a wood. We decided to plank two pieces of wood together because it would be the perfect size and we thought it would give off a neat effect. We then painted the wood black so it would really pop against our neon colors. We used a drill to make wholes around the silhouette then hammered in the nails. We split the thread so it would look thinner and started to string it around the outside making a rainbow. We think we should hang it in the front hallway in between the two large posters. We think this would add a lot to our school's entry way. Overall, this project was fun and we loved collaborating with the pre-engineering students and art students because we could share our knowledge and gain new knowledge about the other class.
Artist Statement:
The collaborative project helps represent peace in our school through string art.

My inspiration for this project is to demonstrate that peace and love is all around us even if we don't realize. I put a heart in the tree to show that even in nature and in our environment there is unity and friendship.
The learning targets and goals for this project are to collab with the pre-engineering students to demonstrate different skills in different subjects to create a given affect of peace for September 21st, Peace Day.
Steps to create this project were:
Create an idea that shows peace and unity.
Measure the length of your wood.
Sand the wood to erase any ruff bumps of edges
Paint or polish the wood.
Predrill and put the nails in your wood.
Pick out your yarn and start stringing.
I am proposing to continue to keep my art in the display case so I can take it home and hang it up. I believe hanging up string art around the school improves the school because it gives the school some color and represents peace around our school. All of our pieces shows what peace means to each of us.
I enjoyed our project because we got to collab with pre-engineering and take two different life skills and put it into one. It shows us how we can use different subjects to create one piece of art.

For my project I did a dandelion being blown away. It Reminds me of the worlds problems being blown away and gives me a peaceful feeling. Some of the goals for this project were to graph drawings, express the theme, and use art and pre-engineering Technics. To start creating this project we had to use a ruler to make a 1 inch grid and put dots on it to see where we wanted our nails. Then we picked out the type of wood we wanted, cut it to the size of our choice and painted or stained it. After The paint dried we taped your grid onto it and drill holes where you put the dots. Then you choose your nail or screw size and color and put them where you drilled the holes. Lastly you pick your colors string and lace Them around the nails or screws. I would like to hang my art above the stairs in the expo hall because it such a blank space and I think it will be cool to have some art hanging up there. I really enjoyed this project. I found that sanding the wood and drilling the holes was fun. I also found stringing it the strings relaxing. I enjoyed my two favorite explos coming together.

Our inspiration for the string art project was seeing every thing in the news about bombing and how other countries need are help. The learning targets/ goals for this project were to make a project represents peace and love. The steps we went threw with creating our were to design, construct/build, and then to complete are project by using different shades and colors of yarn. Math is evident in are project because the amount of nails and portions, art was used in the different colors and design of the work, and Pre- Engineering with screwing in the screws, the building and sanding of the wood.
We will be displaying are work in the front hall way near the doors to the courtyard. It improves Leawood Middle School because its an area where many people will be able to see it, and will be aware of whats going on in the world.
This collaborative project was a success because we could use our skills from art and learn form others about pre- engineering. We can express different ideas with each other to design a project to represent peace.
Artist Statement: Are perspective on this project was to create a piece of art to represent other places that need our help and the world united.

Our inspiration for the string project was eternal peace. We used the warm toned string as string because we liked how it looks with the grey background. We put the sting on the outside of the peace sign. We outlined the peace sign with black string so it would stand out. We drilled the holes without Janey because she is scared of drills. Some other steps we took to create our masterpiece were we used graph paper to line out our design before we drilled. While we were stringing it we learned how to create artwork in a unusual way. We learned not only art techniques but pre engineering techniques. We will be hanging our artwork in the hallway where the bus comes in because the kids who ride the bus will always be reminded of peace.

My inspiration for this project was simply my knowledge of what it's like to struggle in school, struggle with friendships, and more. That's why I chose the Hamsa as my string art symbol. The Hamsa is a protective sign that represents happiness, luck, good fortune, and health. The eye in the middle represents the negative energy or people in your life, and the hand outside of it represents blocking the negativity. The goal that I had for this project was to make sure that everything was proportional and even, and that I chose the colors wisely so the background didn't take away from the actually string art itself. The math, art, and pre-engineering skills that are evident for this project was proportion, symmetry, knowing how to use pre-engineering tools properly, and precision. These are important because when placing the nails, if you don't hammer them straight down or hold on to them tight enough, they can get crooked. If you make sure you have these things when working on the project, the symbol or picture will look the way it is supposed to. I am placing my string art in the commons along with everyone else so when the students and staff of LMS see our work it reminds them to not worry about what others think and do what makes you happy. It represents our school as a whole and reminds us that we can succeed if we do our best. Overall, I found this project really fun and a great way to learn from your mistakes. Although it got stressful at times, looking at your piece at the end can make you proud of yourself and remind you that you did your best.
