At first, I entered this class believing I had no artistic ability. My creature project represents my growth as not only an artist, but as a human being. My creature project was inspired by my childhood, which would have been horrendous without my parents. My parents provided me with love, which is all any child truthfully needs. The love provided by my parents yielded a fun, happy, and playful environment. The color scheme represents not only an ocean-like feeling of peace, it represents the pure, positive emotions I had growing up. While these etchings along the body may appear random, I carefully placed them to show the imperfections not only in myself, but in the world. The world is meant to be imperfect, that’s why art is an expression of reality. Colors evoke emotions that can never be perfectly described, they bring a feeling that no dictionary will ever provide. My project represents each individual from a worldly view, placing each trait of humanity symbolically. My creature has three legs, because almost all species have an even number of them. This conveys the random, peculiar nature in all of us. His eyes are yellow, to show the positive light all people should view the world. Perspective is the biggest factor in one’s mindset. If his eyes were red, viewing everything with pessimism and hatred, then he would only see the world in that light. His parents were conspicuous to their neighbors, they never fit in with the turtles or the fish. Yet, his family was inextricable to each-other, as they were connected not only through strands of DNA, but their love for one another. This was not normal love found in most stable families, as it also was essential they stick together, since they were outcasted from all communities within the sea. They had three legs, which even societies within the ocean found strange. While their colors expressed beauty, spectators found their physical features hideous. However, Lloyd's family used this criticism to strengthen their characters. While the condescending looks from their neighbors hurt, they only allowed their scars to show on the inside. Lloyd grew in a happy environment, yielding a happy personality that was content with his unappealing figure. Lloyd grew to be happy with himself, and could care less of the critical remarks he received in his lifetime. Eventually, his parents passed away. Scientists searched deep within the Atlantic in search for unknown sea life, and stumbled across Lloyd. They took him aboard, and preserved him by burning him alive in a kiln.
