Nevertheless, when I finished my feelings were so different. I was able to do it without planning or studying before and, at the same time, I realized that I had left some things out.

 

In terms of the instructions and outlines given by the teacher, I consider they were useful to plan and design my letter because we worked in some steps before writing it. I realized that writing process is not as easy as it looks and, if it is not for me, is not easy for my students. Because of that, I have come to the conclusion that I have to change the way I do the writings with my students, as it is not easy to do it without a previous plan.

 

About the model I used I consider it was useful to follow the formal structure and the greetings. In terms of content, it was not helpful as it was not the same. I acknowledge that I had problems in the elaboration of certain phrases and words, but I could change them using another way to express my goal. Also, I know I did not respect the margins along the text, and I did not write well at all. All this was due to the time I had available and my nerves.

 

Although it is true that this activity has helped me to realize that, in order to write a text, you have to take into account many factors, such as grammar, vocabulary, structure, coherence and appropriateness. We often don't realize what it can be like to ask a 12-year-old student to write a 100-word text about the summer holidays. For this reason, we teachers must reflect on our practice and adapt it to the characteristics of our students and the classroom. 

It would be a good idea to implement an activity like this in the classroom, with the aim of making them reflect on the importance of producing a good text. At the same time, putting myself in the children's shoes, I may not give them the importance they deserve because of their age and maturity. Despite of this, I would like to be able to apply it in the classroom in a way that is attractive to children, as whenever a writing activity is proposed, they do not like it and feel rejected.

 
"Hang the DJ", an episode of Black Mirror series, is the result of this. In this chapter we see how, through a computer system or application, users are assigned to people they do not know and must spend a limited amount of time with them until they find the “last match”. However, there is a drawback. This time can range from hours to years. It all depends on how you felt during the date, your emotions and feelings towards the other person. So, if you like science fiction, thrillers and you are a fan of romantic movies, I encourage you to watch this one.

It is worth pointing out that, thanks to this type of series, we can reflect on the concept of love, technologies and the control they exert over us. Nowadays, many people are choosing the quick and easy option of downloading apps where people are discovered through a "match" or through social networks such as Instagram. Therefore, the concept of romantic love as we used to know it in Taylor Swift's songs or in movies like the Beauty and the Beast is left aside. In both examples there is a concept of classic and innocent romantic love where eternal romance and a shared life for the rest of one's life is promised.

 

If you would like to see something different that makes you reflect and entertain at the same time, "Hang the DJ" is certainly a clear example.
