A collection of thoughts and ideas relating to my FMP theme.

Here I have considered the Artist as a collector, and have looked at the collections that artists make outside their work and also within their work. I have also looked at collections that I have visited and considered as well what we can collect, ranging from medical instruments, to art, to animals and finally to peoples data. Whats also interesting is the moral implications of some of these collections, whether it was right to actually collect them.
And I've also thought about why we might collect things, for sentimental value? Or to show our own dominance over other cultures as can be seen in victorian collections.

These conversations range from deep discussions around politics to drawings of Adirondack chairs and gossiping. Grigley creates installations with these conversations and displays them in gallery spaces, the walls hum with conversation.

I've always liked Grigley as an artist. I like that he has used his platform to talk about the experience of deafness. What interests me also is the collecting of conversations. Some of these conversations are long and drawn out and others are short and too the point. Often they show diagrams and illustrations. It;s interesting how he presents communicators with a challenge, a challenge that they might not be comfortable with but it is that discomfort they must overcome to have a conversation. I enjoy the idea of all these archived moments in the artist's life that he can look and reflect back on, some of which might be painful others might bring joy
