Why?
This is related to my astrology 1st project idea. The work explores human form.The artist expresses his creativity through using different colours of makeup to achieve the desired space themed look.
direction of the models eyes. the makeup was done as a recreation of a look done by one of his instagram followers. he did it as a tutorial.
Where?the artwork is situated in a room with a white background and good lighting to make the makeup the main focus. in New York .

When: the artwork was done in 2018 . this is in relation to the current makeup trends in that year and this happened to be. one of them

What do other people think? I feel as if the general public is impressed by this piece of art through the comments under this tutorial video and the pictures posted on instagram.Most people see to be impressed and amused by the talent this young male shows through his work.
What do I think? I think James Charles is a talented young man and I admire the work he has done with the make up designs.


I would like to imitate how he uses blue and black to come up with a space sci-fi effect in my afro-futirsm magazine.

effect light on the model:
this is able to project the art done on the model's facebringing out all the details more clearly.
makeup:she has marks that look like horns on both sides of her forehead something similar to tribal marks often used by Africans as a sign of beauty.
the effect of pearls on the model reflect the silvery light as well as add to the sci-fi alien aesthetic of the image.
direction of the models eyes creates a superficial atmosphere . it seems as if she is in her own world far away from reality.
use of tin foil in hair: It serves as a protective cover as it also falls in the direction of the face sort of as a shield . creating the feeling that the model is a force to reckon with.

in this film and her other films , she (Wanuri Kahiu) aims to create a sense of utopia and the focus is on human relationships. In them , believing they are beautiful. In the world of "Pumzi" which means "breath" in Swahili .Asha is the main Character in the Film.Communication is largely facilitated through technology , an interface where the voice can be heard and the face seen but no emotions or active speaking detected.The emotional impact behind interpersonal communication moves to the fingers as Asha types out her messages , mirroring the shifts that currently occur today. Additionally , Asha's interactions with the bathroom janitor , the character with whom perhaps she has the most human relationship , are entirely wordless. The lack of dialogue throughout the film further reinforces the cool efficiency of the colony while portraying the potential for technological information to deteriorate genuine interpersonal reltions.
The women who deny Asha access to the outside world, are the head of this colony- This is a demonstration of feminism in the film. 
Also , Asha taking the lead role in the film , as a woma in itself is empowering.
The bathroom janitor, is a Caucasian female, placing black women in positions of power in the film as she is the only caucasian. This is an example of black women reclaiming their power  in the future.
Wanuri also represents civilisation in the future by a predominantly black community.
In the film , the community is called the Maitu community , in the East African Territory , 35 years after world war III, -The Water War-. She uses kikuyu influences .This is the tribe of the majority in Kenya , thus largely spoken throughout the nation. The word was coined from words "maa" which directly tranlates to "truth" and "itu" into "ours" loosely translating into our truth. Maitu in general means mother. Wanuri claims that it is essential to feel connected to mother nature and connect to it.just as Asha did by escaping into the outside forbidden world to nourish a plant. The  need for us to be mothers to things we are not necessarily connected to , nature, bees , birds, flowers because this is the world we live in that feeds us. and if we dont and choose to feed concrete there is nothing we will be leaving behind as a generation of people. The film she claimed was madse for her nicees and nephews before she became a mother-the future of tomorrow. 
Presence of science fiction is not new in Africa , it is not unique. we've alwys beentelling stories of organic sciences, fantasies, myths, legends , about our own self-creation(cosmology) , (for the Kikuyu , the story of Gikuyu and Mumbi) , these things hav existed. Wanjri claims in 2 instances , one a ted talk show and the other an interview that labelling her work as "AFROFUTURISM" limits the outreach.
According to Wanuri , the clan that she descends from , is one of storytellers , who were believed to speak to nature and animals . This is an instance of afrofuturism , but not among the African diaspora but in Africa itself. That is an example of science-fiction. This is a clear indication that this is a continuation of scince fiction from the generation.
