Choose a scene from the book that reveals accurate historical details. Did history unfold accurately in your book?

According to this article "In the early 1930s, Germany was in an economic and political crisis. Beginning in fall of 1929, there was a world economic crisis known as the Great Depression. Millions of Germans lost their jobs. Unemployment, hunger, poverty, and homelessness became serious problems in Germany in the early 1930s. The German government failed to solve the problems caused by the Great Depression. Germany was politically divided. This made passing new laws almost impossible because of disagreements in the German parliament. Many Germans lost faith in their leaders’ ability to govern. Radical political groups like the Nazi Party and the Communist Party became more prominent. They took advantage of the economic and political chaos. They used propaganda to attract Germans who were fed up with the political stalemate." (Holocaust Encyclopedia) Many people in Germany were struggling with unemployment, hunger, poverty, poor governmental power, and homelessness. When the Nazi/ Communist Party became more prominent with Hitler as the leader many Germans became hopeful that Hitler would help restore their nation. This happens to Martin in the book Address Unknown. In this book, one of the main characters who lives in Germany believes that Hitler is a "savior" of sorts, and is hopeful that he will restore Germany. He eventually gets the idea (by being influenced by Nazi opinion) that the main problem in Germany was all the Jews and that in order to properly restore Germany you would need to get rid of them. A few examples of this can be seen in this quote "No longer do the people wrap themselves in shame; they hope again. Perhaps they may be found an end to this poverty. Something, I do not know what, will happen. A leader is found." (Katherine Taylor 18) And this one "If I could show you if I could make you see the rebirth of this new Germany under our Gentle Leader! Not always can the world grind great people down in subjugation. In defeat for fourteen years, we bowed our heads. We ate the bitter bread of shame and drank the thin gruel of poverty. But now we are free man." (Katherine Taylor 28) History unfolded correctly in Address Unknown, I know this because the novel correctly shows how many Germans were influenced by the hope of escape from all of the poverty the Great Depression brought, and the idea that Hitler was the one to save them.

WARNING, THIS FOLLOWING PARAGRAPH CONTAINS MAJOR SPOILERS!

In this movie, lots of minor characters play their part in defeating Thanos. Iron Man adds complexity to the plot by sacrificing his life in order to do so. Doctor Strange told the Avengers that there was a 1 in 14 million chance of them ever winning against Thanos in Infinity War. Strange never actually told them what had to happen in order for it to be done, until he held up one finger in Endgame. This movie relates to our essential question since every character in Endgame adds a little bit of complexity to the story, but the main character in Endgame was truly Iron Man.

Address Unknown and Escape from East Berlin are similar as they both focus on relationships. Both books focus on how close relationships are impacted by significant events in history (that were specific to Germany), a good example is with Max and Martin (in Address Unknown) and with Kurt and Franz (in Escape from East Berlin). However, they are some differences, one example of this is the significant events; in Address Unknown the significant event is Hitler's rising to power and the very beginning of the Holocaust. And in Escape from East Berlin, the major event was the Berlin Wall.

I partly summarize the book in this paragraph, so warning for spoilers :)

In the novel And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie minor characters not only add complexity but also enhance the read and become vital parts of what makes the book so popular and well-known. In the murder-mystery novel, the story focuses on 10 strangers invited to an island to meet an unknown host, eventually, they are all trapped on the island and one by one they die according to a poem (10 little soldier boys), until there is only one left. At the beginning of the book, there was a record played that read an accusation of murder for each character, for example, "Vera Claythorne accused of murdering Cyril Hamilton". The supposed victims are minor characters and though we don't learn much about them they become vital to the plot. The story then starts to unfold as we learn more about each of the 10 main characters and how their lives were affected by the minor characters. It was because of these minor characters that the 10 main characters are where they were and why they died.
