The workers at the Pullman company were extremely unsatisfied after the price of housing increased and at the same time their wages decreased. The people were so revolted, that the federal forces at the time intervened by arresting some of the leaders of the revolt. This was a time where it was obvious the preference of the government to the business owners over the working class.

Andrew Carnegie's steel workers decided to go on a strike due to the harsh pay cuts and working conditions. As the conflicts arose, it started to become violent. The manager at the factory brought in Pinkerton agents, (something like security for companies at the time), then the agents clashed with the revolted strikers. This conflict resulted in many injuries and even deaths.
