They are more likely than their non-Hispanic peers to face the four most serious threats to achieving success: depression, pregnancy, substance abuse and becoming a high school drop out. One non-profit organization that aims to empower these young Latinas is a Texas-based non-profit organization called Latinitas. It offers a variety of enriching experiences for girls to discover their voice; develop media and technology skills; strengthen their confidence, self-esteem, and cultural identity; be prepared for higher education; promote leadership development and social justice advocacy; and explore STEM careers to be prepared to enter the 21st century workforce.

Specific issues will need to be addressed that speak to important social issues, such as empowerment, inequality, oppression, domination, etc. (Creswell, p. 9).
