By: Paige m.
Recently, my class and I have read A Christmas carol by Charles dickens. The book was absolutely wonderful, and they play we saw after had almost every detail that ive ever imagined while reading the book. For the play, we went to Guthrie theatre in Minneapolis. The theatre was a wonder itself, but the performance was magical. I give it a one-hundred percent satisfactory rating.

The play about an old man named Ebenezer scrooge, (played by J.C. Cutler) who was a very sinful, evil man. On the night before Christmas, he is visited by three spirits. The ghost of Christmas past, (Tracey Maloney,) The ghost of Christmas present, ( Joel liestman,) and the ghost of Christmas past, (Eric sharp). The spirits showed him snippets of memories, the future, and things that were happening at the moment of the time they were in. On Christmas day, Scrooge awakens to find himself in a more giving, and caring mood, so he tries to right his wrongs that he had commited the day before, and lived a more happier life from that day on.

I found that the entire experience was an exhilarating experience. It was a wonderful breath of fresh air from a very creative flower. I believed it to be one of my better memories that I hope to cherish forever.

By: Benjamin Ouse

I had recently read A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens and went to see the play version at the Guthrie Theater. The book at the play were splendid to read and watch the different characters in the play were very well fitted to their parts in the play. The book was very specific and surprisingly the play was to. With the detail and uniqueness of the book was very well captured in the play. I very well enjoyed the play in every way the specifics in the it and the lighting and all the extra equipment was very well done. The book was amazing to read with the tension and desire to peak the readers mind was miraculous.

During the book and the play Ebenezer Scrooge (J C Cutler) was visited by spirits to show him the true meaning of Christmas and how important it is. The play was very well done with special effects, and the book was made very interesting by the depth of the content in the story itself. Another amazing part about the play was the costumes for the characters, they were so enhanced with well detail especially the spirits costumes.

My final paragraph will be my overall rating of the story which is I highly recommend you to read or see A Christmas Carol because of the impeachment the book gives and the detail of the play. The play is very well done and I give a great bow to Joe Chavala for his amazing work in The Christmas Carol play. My rating of the book using a 1-10 scale I give it a 10 and the same to the play. Thank you for taking the time for reading this and I hope you enjoyed it.

We first started reading A Christmas Carol in school. We were reading it in our English class. The book is not a big one but has a lot of big words. We had the opportunity to go down to the play in the cities the trip down to the cities was a long trip it was 3 hours. the author is Charles Dickens. the play was well performed. They must have spent a lot of time working on it. The play was a lot like the book but they also added some things to make it even better. The director of the play was Joe Chvala the person who played scrooge was J.C. Cutler. The play and book were both very good. I would give both a ten out of ten. if you want to go to the play you should. Everyone in the play did really well the all knew their lines from back to front. And that is my thoughts on the play and book. thank you for reading this

A Christmas Carol Review By:Abby Recently my class read Charles Dickens’ book A Christmas Carol. In December we were given the opportunity to go see the play A Christmas Carol at the Guthrie Theater directed by Joe Chvala. I thought both the play and the book were very good. The book was very well written and well thought out. Charles Dickens crafted a very entertaining and interesting novel, you never really got bored with it because something new was always happening. The play was very similar to the book, but it was even more entertaining because you got to see it all laid out in front of you. The play was very accurate to the book that it was like seeing it or reading twice. However there were some differences for example in the book the Ghost of Christmas Past was a man like child with large light coming out of his head. In the play they had a female actress with a crown strung with lights. The actor who played Scrooge was J.C. Cutler and he was very good at portraying his character I thought he was a very good Scrooge. All of the sets they used for the scenes were very well made and looked very real. Even the costumes looked like they had been plucked right out of the book. The way everything went so smoothly during the scene transitions was very impressive especially since there were children acting in the play also. `I thought A Christmas Carol was a very good novel, the story is really inspiring in the fact that anyone can change their ways even if others have given up hope. The story is just very heartwarming because Scrooge sees the error in his ways and decides to change. He becomes the best man in his town, helps all of the people he can, and lives the rest of his life with a feeling of happiness not greed. I would definitely recommend both the novel and the play. If you are given the chance to go see A Christmas Carol at the Guthrie Theater I highly recommend seeing it. Also if you have any spare time on your hands you should definitely consider reading A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. Both the book and the play were really good and I would gladly read or watch them again.

A Christmas Carol Review	By, Chase Balken Reading one of the most popular books of all time was really a privilege for me and my English class, because I’ve never read that particular book and I have always wanted to. The words, characters, actions, and settings being used in the novel must have taken a lot of thought and detail. Most schools don’t get to read some of these classic books in class. Teachers miss the opportunity to share this knowledge with their students. Not only did we get to read the book, but we were able to go the Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis, MN for our English teacher to be able to get the tickets for our whole class to go was really fantastic. The play was amazing with the set, choreography, and acting was very good. The director, Joe Chuvala really did a good job with incorporating everything that has to do with the book A Christmas Carol. To summarize it quickly there’s this guy named Ebenezer Scrooge who hates Christmas or everything to do with it, and his nephew comes to his shop on Christmas Eve to ask to spend Christmas day with him and his friends and family, but all Scrooge says is “Bah Humbug”. That night when Scrooge arrives at his home he sees his deceased business partner Jacob Marley on the front of his door, but he thinks he was just imagining it. Later that night when Scrooge is in bed the ghost of Jacob Marley appears and tells Scrooge that three ghosts will come and pay him a visit, The Ghost of Christmas Past, Present, and Yet To Come, but all at separate times that week. When the first ghost comes he shows Scrooge his past life when he was a boy and young adult, after seeing all the happy times he had once had before but ruining them because of being selfish and greedy he tries to get rid of the ghost but it doesn’t work. Later that day the second ghost comes and shows him what his family says and thinks about him, and finds this stuff very hurtful, but the ghost also takes him to one of his employee’s house, Bob Cratchit. Bob has a crippled son named Tiny Tim and Scrooge sees how hard their life is because they have so little. Scrooge then asks the spirit if Tiny Tim will die and the spirit replies with” I see an empty chair in the Cratchit household”. Finally the third spirit arrives, The Ghost of Christmas Yet To Come, shows Scrooge someone’s funeral and he can’t figure it out, but then realizes it was his own and nobody came. Scrooge begs the spirit to change his future and said he will honor what all three spirits have told him. And finds himself in his own room again and goes to sleep, the next morning he wakes up and finds out it is Christmas Day and is really happy and buys the Cratchit’s a big goose and gives Bob Cratchit a raise. Mr.Scrooge lives happily and generously for the rest of his life. The moral of the story was really inspiring and I definitely would suggest reading the book. If you get a chance to go to Guthrie Theater someday, I would highly recommend it. The actor who played Ebenezer Scrooge, J.C Coutler has been playing that part for several years and has been doing a great job. Charles Dickens the author of A Christmas Carol is very famous for his work and this is definitely one of his more famous books I think. I would give the book and play a five star rating for sure.

A Christmas Carol Review Our English class recently read A Christmas Carol. I thought the book was good. We also got the chance to go to the Guthrie Theater and see A Christmas Carol. I thought the play was really good. Scrooge was played by J.C. Cutler, and he played the Scrooge really well I thought. When I read the book that is what I would imagine him to look like when reading the book. In the beginning of the play the Scrooge hated everything about Christmas. His nephew asked him if he wanted to go to Christmas dinner and The Scrooge said good day sir. His employee asked for the day off and Scrooge said only if you come in extra early tomorrow. The Scrooge just wanted nothing to do with Christmas. One night Jacob Marley his old business partner came and told him he would be visited by three ghosts: the Ghost of Christmas Past, the Ghost of Christmas Present, and the Ghost of Christmas Future. I thought the costumes of all the ghosts were so good. The Ghost of Christmas Past showed Scrooge his past when he was a child. He spent his Christmas alone without his family but his sister fan spent it with him. It made the Scrooge feel lonely and sad. The Ghost of Christmas Present showed him the Cratchit family. They were a very happy family but they had little to eat on Christmas. They also had a little boy name Tim. He was in poor health and the lack of food they had didn’t help his health. Scrooge was worried that tiny Tim would die. The Ghost of Christmas Future showed Scrooge his funeral. No one was there and people were stealing stuff from his house when he was dead. Scrooge realized that he needed to change, and later he did. I thought the Guthrie Theater was really nice. The performance room itself was so nice. I would go see the play again. Everything about it was amazing: the acting, the costumes, the stage, and the props were so good. I would recommend anyone to see the play.

I read who was playing the characters, and Scrooge was J.C. Cutler, and the director was Joe Chvala. The play was set up very well; it had Scrooges Office, and the special effects were very good. There were some parts where there was fog, and there was a door that would come out of the ground which was cool.

A Christmas Carol Review

I recently finished reading the book A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens in my English class. I enjoyed the book but was then given an amazing opportunity to see the live play at the Guthrie Theater. I’m giving a recommendation on the play today. Here is my opinion.

The play was directed by Joe Chvala I think he did an amazing job. The man who played scrooge J.C. Cutler was one of the best actor I have ever seen. He did an outstanding job. The play was great and followed the storyline of the book to near perfection. I was interested with new things each and every second, it was full of action. I loved the fact that the actors made you feel involved in the play. I have absolutely no complaints with the play itself, the only bad thing was the leg room at the theater. The play had no mishaps at all. One thing that amazed me was how the actors didn’t use microphones yet, still spoke loud enough for everyone to hear. It was also amazing how there were children in the play that performed perfectly. The atmosphere in the theater felt like you were there in real life with Scrooge (J.C. Cutler) as he went through his adventure.
My recommendation is that if you are ever given the opportunity to attend this play do so. I give it a 10/10 in every single category. It was astounding and fun, would recommend to everyone. I had never been to a professional play before and now want to attend more. Like I’ve said 10/10 rating and, I think you’d agree. By:Chris Carrillo

A Christmas Carol Play Review Recently I read a Christmas carol by Charles dickens in my English class. I was very excited to read the book when I found out that we were going to go to the play. The book was really good but the play was way better because they got so into it. In the book, Dickens made story sound cool, but in the play, they made it so much better.	In my words, the book was about a man that made mistakes by putting people down in his life and needed to fix them. There were these three spirits that came to Scrooge to try and help him fix his mistakes. The spirits sounded spooky in the book but they were more funny in the play. So the book to me was a man that had to fix his mistakes so he didn’t end up like his deceased partner Jacob Marley.	In my opinion the book and the play were both very good but the play had the book beat by a lot. The book was very interesting but the play made it a lot more interesting. So I think the play is way better the play was a lot better. I give the book and the play 10/10 stars. By: Tanner Heier

A Christmas Carol Review I recently just read a book called A Christmas Carol. I liked the book a lot and the best part about it is we got to go see a play at the Guthrie theater in December. I loved the play more than the book because I love the plays and I get excited when I get to see them. The had some jump scares especially when the three-spirit’s come out. I wish the play was longer because it was very exciting. The person who played as scrooge is named J.C Cutler. The director who well directed the play is named Joe Chavala.

The summary of both the book and play is in the book there’s this character named scrooge. Everyone basically hates him because he’s mean he doesn’t celebrate Christmas and he’s greedy. He also had this partner named Marley but he died six years before in the book. Then Scrooge gets greeted by three spirits named Christmas past, present, and future. After all, three spirits visited Scrooge he finally realized the real meaning of Christmas. About the play its basically the same except it was way better to see it in live. Some parts are different but not a lot of it, so it’s basically the same. I really recommend the book to anybody that is intrigued about it. Just reading the book will want you to read more and more and you don’t want it to end. The play is just magnificent to watch and experience as it was going on. It’ just really fun to just see a movie about the Christmas carol and reading the book but seeing a play about it is exciting. So, if anybody is planning to go to the play at the Guthrie theater I would totally go. I’d also recommend it to kids and maybe some adults because they will learn the true meaning of Christmas by reading the book or the seeing the play.

A Christmas Carol Review

By: Cincere Juarez

I read the book and I loved the opportunity that I got to read a book that's older than me. I never done that. But it wasn't just me. It was my whole class. The author was Charles Dickens. The book was about a man that was cranky, old, and especially not jolly about his life. He did not care about the poor or the sick. He only cared about money and his life. He was a selfish man. During this time, he had a worker at his shop. The man sadly passed away, but Scrooge went to go see his worker that passed, and there was two coins on his eyes. Scrooge took them. Scrooge cried only because he shouldn't make money off of his worker. This was seven years ago. Seven years later, Scrooge went home. He was inside his house in his room when the door was shut but outside his door he heard chains and someone or something walking. The sound got closer to his door, and he had no idea what the sound was. Then a ghost went through his door. The ghost later revealed who he was. He was Marley the dead worker. His purpose is to warn Scrooge about three spirits.
I highly recommend this book because it shows you how not to be a bad man and to care about people and your friends and family. It shows you the Christmas spirit and how you should not be selfish but care about others than yourself. You are important. Even your friends and family think you're important because you play a big role in life.

By: Noah Cole

We recently read A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. And we got a chance to go to the Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The director was Joe Chvala. What I liked was how hard they must've worked to get everything working and all of their parts exact, and I really admire how patient they were.

The ghost of Jacob Marley actually made me jump. It was so loud and it kind of scared me and so did the Ghost of Christmas Yet To Come. I heard steam pipes and just jumped.

I would really recommend this book and play. It's performed every year, and I hope you enjoy it.
