In the article, Children of Africa, it tells us that Americans tend to just associate kids in Africa with poverty, although differences and similarities are spread throughout the continent. We learn that based on an African child’s expectations, their contentment will vary. It has us acknowledge the fact that even if the kids don’t have wealth, and the technology that we have, they can still be happy and have a good childhood helping with the family chores. Despite the few that do have decent lives, most kids have unhappy childhoods due to the illnesses that take over their parents that make them the main workers of the family. Kids whose parents are ill or unable to work become beggars, or are sent off to other relatives and work as servants. The African Charter of Rights and Welfare of the Child was taken over by the African Union in 1999. It os a charter that legally does not allow anything that goes against children rights (such as using children to beg). Countries signed up to the charter. Children of Africa tells the readers about the effects of poverty. They include break ups in families, malnutrition (easily able to get sick), not a lot of health care availability, and little or no sanitation.  Lastly, we are provided with the information that 38 of the 40 highest mortality rate countries are in Africa. This highly informative article has taught me so much about the children of Africa.

When the kids' parents are sick or can't work, the kids have to find things from the rubbish to sell, or steal things to sell. They might be sent to their relatives to live their,until, or if, the parents get better. It also talks about how they are improving caldrons health.

The Sahara Desert is one of the harshest places to live. It has very dry weather and hot temperatures. Although, it does have two rainy seasons which can bring very harsh floods that come with a freak rainstorm. The desert stretches 3,000 miles across the whole entire part of Northern Africa.  A quarter of the desert is covered with sand dunes, some reaching up to 500 feet. Only two million people live within the Sahara Desert, along with drought-resistant animal species.
