The Bahamas is one of the 13 countries in the Caribbean. There are almost 700 islands that make up the Bahamas and the capital city is Nassau. The Bahamas is about 110 miles southeast of Miami, Florida. I chose this country because The Bahamas is my favorite country to visit. I travel to a region called Eleuthera. I am very interested in the culture, people, and food. I actually want to live in Eleuthera for a little when I get out of college!

Conch salad is a traditional Bahamian dish that consists of conch, tomato, cucumber, bell pepper, onion, salt, pepper, and limes. It is a very simple dish but it tastes amazing! In The Bahamas, they have pop up shacks all over that serve fresh conch salad. I absolutely love conch salad and I eat it all the time when I am there.

I find this interesting because I have snorkeled in the Bahamas but I want to learn how to scuba dive so I can see this coral reef.

This is interesting because I think it is cool how the building was built in France but was brought over to the Bahamas.

Junkanoo is a festival in the Bahamas that is celebrated various times a year including New Years Day, the day after Christmas, and many days in the summer. During Junkanoo, people dress up in colorful costumes with headpieces and dance through the street. Junkanoo celebrates how the slaves rejoiced after their lives of captivity. This is so interesting to me because I have actually been to a few Junkanoo festivals!

Nicolette Bethel is an author from the Bahamas who wrote the book Essays on Life in 2007. She describes her view in life and how all that ultimately matters is what is good for you in each moment, rather than focusing too much on the past or present. This is interesting because I really like the message that her book is presenting to the reader.
