What does a healthy relationship look like?

The first important healthy relationship factor is respect. Respect is being thoughtful of your partner and what they would want you to do. This is important because it not only shows that you are mature but also care about your partner's feelings. Respect in a relationship can be something as little as listening to your partner when they talk. The second important aspect is honesty. Honesty is telling your partner the truth, whether it's something they want to hear or not. Being honest helps build trust in your relationship and can help work through problems between the two of you. Honesty can be like owning up fairly to your role in something and explaining yourself truthfully. The last important aspect is effort. Effort is making your partner feel loved and involved in your relationship. Effort is important because it shows you care about your partner and their feelings. It also shows that you want the best for them. This can also be very simple as effort can be as little as telling your partner you love and appreciate them.

What are the challenges to having a healthy relationship?

#1—Trust: Trust is the ability to rely on your partner because you feel safe with them and believe they will not hurt you. Those things make it hard for us to trust because you become vulnerable and easily hurt. To build trust you can be honest with your partner about everything and eventually, they will feel comfortable enough to trust you.

#2—Communication: Communication is the ability to open up to your partner and have a conversation to resolve issues, get on the same page, or just become closer to each other. This is challenging because not everyone is comfortable opening up about how they feel and will purposely bottle up their emotions. To get past this you have to make your partner feel comfortable around you and when they do open up make sure you're listening to what they are saying.

#3—Spending time together: Spending time together is a great way to get to know your partner and strengthen your relationship, however, it is only beneficial in the right amount. Spending too much time together can lead to the two of you growing sick of each other while spending too little time together can make the two of you feel distant. It is important to find the right balance between spending time with one another. To find that you can have a conversation with your partner and set aside time to be together and time to do other things.

#1—Avoid Comparisons: You should avoid comparisons in your relationship because they not only make you think worse about your partner, but they can also cause unnecessary jealousy and other negative thoughts about your relationship.

#2—Live in the past: The past is a good place to learn from mistakes, but neither you nor your partner should continuously bring up past incidents to gain an advantage over the other person. As long as you both learned from it the past should be left in the past.

#3- Jump to conclusions: You and your partner should not jump to conclusions about anything in your relationship. You both should make sure you have the correct facts and full story before accusing the other of doing something.
