Social justice leaders strive to make a stronger community, not just locally, but globally. Leaders accomplish this by inspiring and uplifting others for the greater good; are inclusive and respectful of all; work in partnership, not out of competition; "their moral and ethical behavior are intrinsic components of leadership" (Shields, p564). Social justice leaders are humanistic by nature, which is why they value people as individuals and as part of a global brotherhood and sisterhood. This is why I strongly believe in advocacy for all forms of social justice. We must speak up for those who can't speak for themselves.

I believe that education and equity are at the center of social justice, which should be followed with equality and dignity for every human being. Education and equity allows for society to flourish. My belief is that social justice leaders identify individual and collective weaknesses of those who are vulnerable and systematically marginalized in a community. Social justice leaders work to educate, build relationships, make connections and engage their constituents to become their own advocates who demand change, equity and equality. They disrupt the status-quo that fragments society and seek to rebuild stronger unified communities.

As Sergiovanni explains, “leaders must lead” but they must not forget that above all, leaders also serve others. Leaders are not only guiding a group, but also must acknowledge those who are inactive from part-taking in the cause; leaders take inventory of the task at hand, the abilities of their constituents and encourages those who have been discouraged in the past. It is my philosophy that leaders in social justice “rally the troops” with truth and hope in taking a realistic, solution-focused approach to long-term goals that are in the best interest of all (Dantley & Tillman, p.19). Social justice leadership takes responsibility for action and inaction and is open to grow from the experience of others.
