Late at night, in 1932, a kidnapper crept into the estate of Charles Lindbergh , climbed a homemade ladder, placed a ransom note on the window seat, and left with the twenty-month-old son of aviation hero Charles Lindbergh. The police came quickly to the large estate in Hopewell, New Jersey and began the search. It was known to be the crime of the century. With the inside help of Charles Lindbergh, John Knoll, an immigrant from Germany with past criminal records, was able to murder Charles Lindbergh Jr. shortly after he was kidnapped. Evidence shows that Charles Lindbergh rearranged his schedule to mastermind the kidnapping, the conviction of bruno Hauptmann, and the unwanted help of the police.

In 1980 Eugene Zorn told his son his extravagant story about his connection with John Knoll. when Zorn was a teenager, three doors down lived a German named John Knoll. The two had become friends through an interest in stamp collecting. In 1931, John Knoll invited 15-year-old Gene on a trip to an amusement park. There Zorn could hear Knoll and two friends talking. He couldn't understand what they were saying however he picked up two words, ‘Englewood” and “Bruno”. After this Knoll told Gene to return back to his house. In 1932 Gene Zorn read about the Lindbergh kidnapping and those two words came flooding back to him. He read about Englewood, were the lindberghs lived and Bruno Richard Hauptmann, the name of the third man talking to John Knoll. The artist’s impression of the kidnapped and the physical features of John Knoll have a striking resemblance. Condon remembers a large lump on “Cemetery John’s” left thumb and Hauptmann did not have such a lump, which is why Hauptmann was wrongly convicted.

A carpenter named Bruno Hauptmann, who claimed he was innocence until he was convicted and put to death for the crime. After the conviction many people remained convinced that Hauptmann did not act alone. The baby had been taken from his second-story bedroom and carried down a ladder. This task is unmanageable for just one person to accomplish alone. Why would Hauptmann maintain his innocence even when offered his life if he told everything? Two footprints were discovered inside of the lindbergh residence. Also the ransom notes claimed “we”, which suggests there was more than one kidnapper.
