Everyone has something that they don’t like about their physical features, right? Well that discomfort hits some much harder than others
The ones most affected may experience an eating disorder or body dysmorphic disorder. However, the two illnesses are not the same, even if they have their similarities. For one, the symptoms can be completely different depending how the person is affected. And what part of the body they are uncomfortable with also differs. Body dysmorphic disorder is often associated with eating disorders because they are not researched as deeply, but we should learn to recognize and respect the differences.
Symptoms and reactions can be completely different from a person with BDD and a person with an ED.People with body dysmorphia may try to perform self surgery on themselves, like reshaping their nose by sticking tissue paper inside or taping it down. Some even go get cosmetic surgery. However, according to Jaquelyn Ekern (MS, LPC), 50% of people who have BDD are still not satisfied with themselves even after surgery. One might find themselves obsessing over another part of their body that was previously acceptable, finding another “flaw” on themselves. ED affected people, particularly those with anorexia/bulimia/OSFED, will have an obsession with how thin/fat their body looks, and will not eat properly. And they will recuperate by either purging themselves of the food that they have eaten, or enter restriction of amount of food/calories.
What either of the affected is uncomfortable with can be extremely different.BDD is the obsession with a certain part of the body, feeling that it’s extremely gross on themselves, no matter how unnoticeable or minuscule the detail is. Like how one’s skin is too dry, or the shape of the nose(Oh, it’s so big it looks like a cauliflower on my face). I myself have been uncomfortable with the length of my legs at some times, due to me partaking in dance and seeing everyone else’s shape around me in leotards. Although it’s not visible, I still feel self-conscious of them while I’m in dance class. BDD doesn’t necessarily have to include disordered eating, because that factor is not needed to achieve their body part goal. But EDs are solely focused on food. Whether it’s severe restriction, discomfort, or inability to control themselves, it’s food and calories.
Now you may think that they are very similar, and one illness could lead to the other. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying that they don’t have similarities. Because they do, and I’m just pointing out some differences that they have. Studies show that 33% of BDD sufferers also experience an ED in their lifetime, while 25% of people diagnosed with anorexia nervosa have experienced body dysmorphia six months prior to their eating disorder (Jaquelyn Ekern, MD, LPC). I like to think of this as a square and a rectangle, like how a square can be a rectangle while the rectangle can’t be a square. An ED can have a lot to do with BDD, but one with BDD doesn’t necessarily have to include disordered eating.
Everyone judges others by looks, don’t even try to deny it. It’s subconsciously and we can’t control it. But just know that it’s not necessary to call them out by it. It could lead to either one of these disorders, which could cause extreme stress and mental harm. It’s like how everyone says, “don’t judge a book by it’s cover”, and that is extremely important. Who knows what could happen? If someone said something hurtful about your physical appearance, how would you react?

A vast ocean filled all sorts of colorful sea life, ranging from the smallest krill to the giant whales that eat them; forests with trees that could reach the sky; mountainous ranges with scenes like summer and winter within a mile; the night skies filled with millions of stars; these are the beautiful scenes of nature at its finest. Nature left alone. But what happens when humans enter the picture? Those clear waters become dirty and filled with trash, those forests are all cut down for factories to be built upon, and those stars have disappeared because there is too much light. Believe it or not, the truth is we are destroying the planet.

Let's start with the obvious first: climate change. With everyone so caught up on how to solve the problem, many forget to wonder why it exists in the first place. According to an article called Global Climate Change: What You Need to Know by Melissa Denchak, “Humans—more specifically, the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions we generate—are the leading cause of the earth’s rapidly changing climate…. the amount of these gases in our atmosphere has skyrocketed in recent decades.”

We aren’t just creating problems though, we also take from the environment; a lot more than we give back. Human Ecology by Bill Freedman states that “One reason [of environmental overexploitation] is the desire of individuals, corporations, and societies to gain short-term profits and wealth, even if this occurs at the expense of longer-term, sometimes irreversible damage to resources and the environment.” Has anyone stopped to think whether it is worth it? Creating irreversible damage to the environment, all for money? I don't know about you, but that seems very shallow to me. Does no one bother to consider their impacts on the environment?

An article in The New York Times, Tourism’s Crash Helped the Planet, And Harmed It, Too by Lisa W. Foderaro, “With flights canceled, cruise ships mothballed and vacations largely scrapped, carbon emissions plummeted. Wildlife that usually kept a low profile amid a crush of tourists in vacation hot spots suddenly emerged. And a lack of cruise ships in places like Alaska meant that humpback whales could hear each other's calls without the din of engines.” Although some people may think that this is good news, it just proves how much we have taken over and how the environment has adapted to learn to live around us.

All we do is take, take, take with any consideration for anyone but ourselves. Since we caused so much destruction and so many problems, it's only fair that we solve them ourselves. The New York Times article also states that Jason Smerdon, a climate scientist, says “‘It's a lot and it's a little,’... ‘Historically, it's a lot. It's the largest single reduction percent-wise over the last 100 years. But when you think about the 7 percent in the context of what we need to do to mitigate climate change, it's a little,’” when asked about the drastic drop in greenhouse gas emissions in the last year. And that’s just because COVID is keeping everyone restricted. We obviously aren’t doing enough to solve our problems so far, but if we are more aware and less selfish, little by little, we can make up for all the harm we have done.

There is nothing wrong with not working online except for plenty of things that makes our world as a whole worse.I think that working online/ using tablets should be the primary way of learning in schools because of the effects it has on our world and on our overall health

I think that working online/ using tablets should be the primary way of learning in schools because of the effects it has on our world and the amount of wastage. Around 115 million tons of paper that has been made THIS YEAR, one ton of paper is 200000 pieces of paper. There has been around 7,843 hectares of forest cut down or burned. One hectare contains around 1600 trees, around 12,548,800 trees have been cut down or burned. Trees help keep us alive by converting carbon dioxide which is poisonous to humans to oxygen which we need to survive. Reducing the amount of co2 in the air is necessary for survival because co2 can kill you, many people have died from it.

I think that working online/ using tablets should be the primary way of learning in schools because of the effects on our overall health.Without as much travel time that means you get to spend more time with family which is good for your health. When you are with your family it usually reduces the stress level meaning your mental health goes up making you happier and more efficient. So working online lets you spend more time with family which as i said before was good for your health. When paper rots it releases toxic methane gas. The methane gas that paper releases is 25 times more toxic than co2 and people die from co2 poisoning so the gas is super deadly to the human body. Which could kill you easily.

Some people might say that learning online is hurting the current generation but i don’t think it is.“Is it really worth it to cut down our life saving trees for this product?” “Every tree produces enough oxygen for 3 people to breathe” ( Both quotes from The world counts:paper comes from trees) and if we cut down 12,548,800 trees then we removed 37,646,400 different peoples' breath. I want the coming generations to not have to worry about oxygen and the amount of trees being cut down.Even if people think we are losing a generation to learning online, we may be losing some generations by not leaning electronically.

Think about the amount of trees being cut down, I think that we should all help save the forests and trees being cut down by reducing the amount of paper waste and being a little more electronically based. Why should the coming generation live in the problems that we created.

In general , people struggle with their physical health, and mental health. But dogs can help you feel better! Dogs are great pets and good support. They are good support because they can help with mental health, and can help you physically! Dogs are great for your mental health because in an NPR article “Pet Adoptions Bring Some Joy During Coronavirus Pandemic” by Patti Neighmond, she talks about how she noticed positive effects in your mental health when you own a dog. “But I think the biggest advantage of having a dog is what it does for mental health. We see very beneficial effects on depression, on anxiety, etc.”Dogs have great effects on your mental health. Many people struggle with depression and anxiety, so dogs would be great for them. This is one of the greatest perks of having a dog.

In the same article Neighmond also talks about how petting a dog makes your oxytocin (a hormone that makes you feel relieved of stress and anxiety), and how out of 4000 dog owners majority noticed a better mental state. “NEIGHMOND: And Brown says it's reciprocal. He points to research showing that when dogs are petted, they also experience an increase in oxytocin. During the pandemic, psychologist Lori Kogan with Colorado State University says it's a win-win for people and dogs. Kogan worked on an online survey of more than 4,000 dog owners. The vast majority described how pets reduced feelings of loneliness and anxiety.”. Dogs are great support, especially in the pandemic. Many people feel lonely and anxious due to the pandemic, but having a dog can help with that. Dogs make you feel less lonely and anxious, plus even just petting a dog can make you feel more relieved!

Not only can dogs help with your mental health, they can help with your physical health. In the article cnn Benifits Of Having A Pet, the author talks about an experiment on how dogs can help peoples health, especially with cardiovascular disease.”An analysis last year of nearly 4 million people in the United States, Canada, Scandinavia, New Zealand, Australia and the United Kingdom found dog ownership was associated with a 24% reduction in dying from any cause. If the person had already suffered a heart attack or stroke, having a dog was even more beneficial; they were 31% less likely to die from cardiovascular disease.”. This shows that dogs are great for your physical health. Dogs can reduce your chance of dying from any cause, especially from cardiovascular disease.

In the same article, it also talks about how dogs reduce your chance of dying in general. “Still, another large study published around the same time found people who owned dogs had better health outcomes after suffering a major cardiovascular event such as heart attack or stroke. The benefit was highest for dog owners who lived alone. Heart attack survivors living alone who owned dogs had a 33% lower risk of death compared to survivors who did not own a dog. Stroke survivors living alone with a dog had a 27% reduced risk of death.”This also shows that dogs are great for your physical health because dog owners who are heart attack and stroke survivors have a lower rate of death.

Some people may ask: What about people who are allergic to dogs? People with a dog allergy can get a dog. How you may ask? You can get a hypoallergenic dog like a bichon Frise, golden doodle, and many more! People with allergies still may get reactions when they first get a hypoallergenic dog, but some people overcome this reaction. When I first got my dog my older sister had reactions, but overtime she got better and now has no reactions when she pets our dog or even when our dog licks her. You can also bathe/clean your dog frequently, that can help with reactions.

As a final point, dogs are great companions that help your body be happier, and your mental state become better. How do you think a dog can beneficially affect your life?

The women’s basketball leagues should lower the rims and give the women the exposure they need to succeed. Many of the incredible women’s basketball players aren’t always getting noticed like the men for their hard work ethic and success in their leagues. The women’s basketball leagues should lower the rims because it would help the women get the exposure they deserve. The women normally tip off with an half empty arena because fans don’t find the game as exciting and interesting as the men. Men's Division I basketball games averaged 4,817 fans during the season; the women's games averaged 1,526 fans. Many of the women are much shorter than the average men, but yet they still play on the average 10ft rim. “In volleyball the women play on nets that are 8 inches shorter than the men so they can still reach over the net and slam it.” Female basketball players are about seven inches shorter than their male counterparts in both the pros and the college ranks, yet 10-foot rims are still the standard for both men and women. Some people might say that lowering the rim could be to dirastic of a change for the women. but, the women’s game relies on jump shots, which translate to lower shooting percentages and a more workaday style. The women’s basketball leagues should lower the rims and give the women the exposure they deserve. Both men and women play on the same size rim even though the women tend to be much shorter than the average men. This leads to many people wanting to watch the men playing because they can dunk. Majority of the women can't dunk, so the game relies on layups and shots, which are easier to miss so the game can consist of lower scores and less exciting game play. Do you think women's basketball leagues should lower the rims?

So do you all remember the Jan.6 U.S Capital riot, the one that went on and on and then was finally settled without any other points made. Except,it shouldn’t have been. The U.S needs to classify the Capital riot as an act of domestic terrorism from hurtful symbols do harassment of police officials.

In the Washington post article, “Identifying far-right symbols that appeared at the U.S Capitol riot” it is shown that there were many symbols or messages used to show how the 2020 election was fraud .One example is the Trump slogan, “Make America Great Again”which was used for his campaign and is being used now even after the election is over. In my opinion, this flag shows how people believe trump's lies without considering the real truth.Another example is the confederate flag which is the symbol of the confederate south side when the U.S was split. This flag also symbolizes slavery to me because the south side believed that slavery should not be abolished. This flag was also brought into the building by a rioter who also went into Nancy Pelosi’s office and took pictures and invaded her personal area.

In the New York Times article New York times article, Officer sicknick died after the capitol riot there is a great example of how people were harassing police officials. This article shows that two men were in the riot preparing to do something with officer Brian Sicknick. Eventually they shot some pepper spray into Sicknick's face making him turn immediately. This example especially shows the domestic terriosim to the superior officials with people unleashing deadly parts of the souls out on others who were doing what they knew was right. It is also stated later that Sicknick collapsed and died a little bit after the riot due to the spray. THis shows that even though the rioters didn't mean to kill this officer the effect was still on themselves. In addition another article,1 officer killed, 1 injured in car ramming attack at street barricade outside U.S. Capitol shows that there were still people fighting back and some people still in anger of what had happened.

Some people might be saying, “But Trump said the election was fraud and he IS the president”, or “we had to do this and we also have the right to protest”. But this is all wrong. Even though Trump was the president that doesn’t mean that he did everything right. We also know that he blamed China for Covid -19 and almost every single one of the lawsuits that Trump sent were sent right back.

At first I didn't care about what was going on with the riot just like some people believing Trump were, but after learning more I understood the real impact it had on the D.C community and I hope that more people can understand that.

Do you like using social media? Like, a lot? If yes, then I have another question for you. Are you also having any weird emotions that you can’t control, and don’t know why? Well, I might have an answer for you. Using social media can leave you in a terrible mental state. It does this because people who want to be included when talking about horrible events become really sad, and people who like to use social media a lot are exposing themselves to all the people talking about these bad things, and it makes it very real to them.

People love feeling included. It is one of the main reasons why people start to use social media in the first place, and they want to express their opinion on events that happen. But you are playing a dangerous game once you get deep into talking about these events. The hedonometer is a tool that was created by Chris Danforth and Peter Dodds, and it takes lots of tweets that people post on Twitter, and finds the most used words to determine how people are doing that day. This tool was able to find that May 31, 2020 was the saddest day in Twitter history, because of the fact that the most used words on that day were “violence,” “racist,” and “terrorist.” This was about a week after the death of George Floyd, when lots of people were protesting the police. Another reason why people who start to get too included in talking about events on social media is because since the pandemic started, so many people have started to use social media, and mainly Twitter. In fact, in the first months of the pandemic, Twitter reported a daily 34 percent average user growth. Why is this a bad thing? Because all of these people who started to use social media in the beginning of 2020 all started to talk about these events, not knowing that the exposition to all these people talking about this was affecting them mentally in a very bad way.

Now, some people don’t feel the need to be included, but they still observe this behavior on social media. This can also be very bad. The people who are just exposing themselves to this also might leave in a bad state, because just knowing or seeing that people are saying all of this on the internet can affect you a lot. Being exposed to these kinds of things can overwhelm your brain. You start to constantly think about events that are happening and your stress levels start to go up, and all of a sudden you don’t know how to respond, but you still just keep going on social media. Another reason why too much exposition on social media can be a bad thing is because lots of people see other people on the internet who are just posting happy pictures of themselves, and they see how they are living, and they compare themselves to them. You then start to feel depressed because you want to live like them but you are just a random person looking at social media.

Some people might say that there are lots of people who use social media all the time and stay happy, like the people who are always posting pictures of themselves living the high life, or just pictures of them being happy. This is not the case. It might not look like it, but those people are just trying to convince themselves that they are happy. They might be just like the people who turn into brain-washed zombies who are always saying their opinions on social media. Pictures can be deceiving, and a lot of people just want others to think they are doing okay, when they really aren’t.

Some people might think social media is cool, because all the cool people use it. But, there is a lot of evidence to prove why it will leave you mentally insecure, and stressed out of your mind. So here is what I propose. You need to know that social media won’t do anything to benefit you in your head, and you need to tell that to everyone that you think might be going through a “social media phase”. I think once people realise that their opinions online don’t do much, and that they won’t be happy with themselves after exposing themselves to too much of this, us people on the internet might finally be happy together.

$7.25. That’s how much money many minimum wage workers make every hour. Is $7.25 enough to cover taxes, food, rent, clothing, debt, bills, and so much more? Of course it’s not! Sadly, many people make $7.25 an hour which is just not enough especially for all the work they do! The federal minimum wage has been too little for too long and it’s time for a change! An increased minimum wage to $15 will help workers who are struggling to put food on the table for their families. Not only that but it will also help the economy grow especially now when we are going through a rough patch because of a global pandemic!

Increasing the minimum wage will greatly help workers especially ones with families who are struggling to make enough money to cover living expenses. If you're wondering if there’s actually going to be a significant impact by upping the minimum wage to $15, there is! According to the Economic Policy Institution, if a $15 minimum wage is implemented by 2025, it will result in 3.7 million people moving out of poverty! Poverty is a big issue and increasing the minimum wage will be a big step in fixing this! In the Business Insider article, Gloria Machuca, a prior employee at McDonald’s, worked 80 hours a week making $9.25 an hour. She left her job to sell perfume to try to make enough money to support her family with 6 children. Gloria expressed how a $15 minimum wage would help her, "It would change my life a lot," she said. "Right now, I work all day and I rarely spend time with my family, my kids." This shows how increasing the minimum wage a few dollars may not seem like a huge deal, but it really is especially to workers with families like Gloria!

An increase in the minimum wage to $15 will not only help workers but also the economy! An American Progress article wrote about how an increase in the minimum wage would “make the economy more equitable and drive growth.” A $15 minimum wage will help the economy because it will give workers more money and it will be spent back on the economy, showing how a $15 minimum wage will actually help the economy. Chuck Collins, director of the Program on Inequality and the Common Good at the Institute for Policy Studies explained how, “Boosting the federal minimum wage would lift millions out of poverty and serve as a huge additional pandemic stimulus boost for the entire economy." This shows how increasing the minimum wage will help the economy especially now well people aren't doing so well because of an unexpected pandemic.

Some people might say increasing the minimum wage will force small businesses to shut down. A CNBC survey found that most small businesses would be able to take in the rise in labor costs from state and local minimum wages. Also, an American Progress article stated that small businesses “would benefit from a more productive workforce”.

Increasing the minimum wage to $15 would be very beneficial to workers and the economy. You can take action by writing to your local government and asking for an increase in the state minimum wage ultimately leading to a country wide change!

The workplace is a dangerous field for people who identify as women. Reading this, I know you might be thinking ‘how so?’ But really, organizations should renew their policies to create an equitable work environment for people who identify as female/workplaces need to update their policies with harassment and inequality. My first reason for saying this, is that, women aren’t getting the money that they deserve. The next reason is that sexism and harassment has been happening for so long that it is tolerated, ignored and companies need to change their policies against this to prevent it. Finally, the work environment is a very dangerous place for women, and I’m not saying that instead of risking the dangers of the workplace, they should just stay home. Women shouldn’t have to change things because men can’t control themselves. Because they don’t get paid as they should. Workplaces have to change. Not women. I gathered information from 3 different sources about the pay gap and sexism in the work field.
sexism and harassment has been happening for so long that it is tolerated, ignored and companies need to change their policies against this to prevent it. The first article starts off by talking about Megan Rapione who is on the U.S. women’s soccer team which filed a lawsuit back in 2019 due to unequal pay against gender. The men's team were getting paid so much more than the women’s team. It then goes on to talk about the fact that if we keep trying to shrink the pay gap at the rate we are going at, it won’t be fully equal until 2059.
Meaning that the pay gap is only shrinking by a couple cents for every decade.
sexism also plays a role because even though the Equal Pay Law passed over 60 years ago, there hasn’t been much change for wage. What is really going on here is that women work for unequal pay and then just downright disrespect. Not only this but Mothers aren’t hired and get paid less even though they have a hard enough time having to take care of kids and then they also need to provide for their families but how can they when they don’t get hired. Nobody really sees unequal pay because it's hidden because not everyone’s going to go around comparing wages. There is just so much negative that just keeps piling on and on. It’s not like they can avoid this, it is everywhere you go and they can’t just not work but then when they work they can’t even make as much money as they deserve. It takes so much just to prove to people that they deserve to be where they are at and so much more to get there because of discrimination. Men don’t realize how hard they need to work to be where they are and then some of them will just think of them as lesser and make it their goal to let them know that. the workplace is hard enough for women and so insults are not going to make it any easier. The author explains, “Even when men and women are performing the exact same jobs, women tend to receive less compensation thanks to overt or unconscious biases, as well as stereotypes that make it more difficult for women to negotiate.” This quote reminds me of what Megan Rapinoe said,
“One cannot simply outperform inequality, or be excellent enough to escape discrimination.” Showing that despite the fact that women perform up to 30 percent more unpaid labor, women would need to work around 448 days to earn what men earn in just 265 days. There is discrimination everywhere right now

the work environment is a very dangerous place for women. This article speaks about how being a woman in the work field is dangerous. women are constantly facing numerous types of sexism whether they realize it or not. There are unconscious stereotypes people in power might set on their female employees. Not only that, but women are expected to prefer to be with their families than do something very important for their job so they aren’t even considered or invited. They also don’t receive the same opportunities as men who do the exact same amount of work and have the exact same amount of credentials and experience. Stereotypes that seem considerate are actually not because they aren’t considering the women’s real opinion, they are just assuming what they want based on stereotypes.
This article speaks about how being a woman in the work field is dangerous. women are constantly facing numerous types of sexism whether they realize it or not. A lot of women are sharing their experiences of not having their suggestions taken seriously or even acknowledged and then a male colleague will end up taking their idea but only they will receive the praise for it. Women aren’t getting listened to.
.people don’t acknowledge sexism and everyone just laughs, just like this one women who shared, ”a male colleague said, ‘I’m sure you know a lot about cleaning.’ People chuckled.”
There is no tolerance for sexism in the workplace let alone acknowledgement.
.everything is always a joke. It takes you back to elementary school where you would always hear that even saying ‘it was just a joke.’ Doesn’t make it funny to the person receiving.
.this article is a bunch of different responses that women wrote in the response to New York Times asking them to share their own experiences. So this article is some of their responses of when they might have experienced sexism in the workplace.
A lot of these experiences are ones where a man has undermined a woman or not listened to them, and most of all not respecting them, like this one woman”I offer my suggestions and comments during meetings, and often my suggestions do not even get acknowledged. Then, moments later, a male in the room offers up my suggestion and claims it as his own, and everyone acts real supportive and cheers it on, so to speak.” Not only this, but men expect their female co-workers to agree with them all the time, just like this one person saying, “I state a fact that is not in agreement with what one of my male co-orders has said, he sends me a message later telling me that I need to ‘soften my responses’ to him.” Even one transgender women noticed, “Post-transition, I could render an opinion or assertion, and it seems that only when a male colleague affirms the same assertion, only then is it taken seriously.” Just like this awful experience where someone was told, “the only reason you would be in the boardroom is if you were bringing us tea.” Exactly like these two women who said, “I remember sitting with two other intelligent women waiting for the C.E.O., and when he walked in, he looked around and said, ‘where are all the guys?’ If only he had realized that we were the ones getting stuff done.” “I’ve been accused of ‘sleeping my way into the job.’ You know, because every women dreams of sleeping her way into the sewer industry.” So everyone juts thinks that men do all of the work and that they didn’t do anything to get where they are. What this causes is every woman having to feel like they always have to prove themselves to everyone that they deserve to be where they are. Working even harder to prove their worth. The thing about this article that is a little bit concerning to me is the number of responses. The New York Times asked this question and there were 1000+ responses. But think about all of the women out there who chose not to write about it or just who have experienced sexism in the workplace at all. It really shows how the work field STILL isn’t a safe environment.
As you can see, we have some real problems facing women in the workplace that NEED to be solved. We have to work together to make sure that organizations renew their policies to create an equitable work environment for people who identify as female/workplaces need to update their policies with harassment and inequality so that women can have a brighter future where they feel safe and get paid as they should. Right now, we're not doing so good.

The percentage of homeschooled students increased from 1.7 percent or 850,000 in 1999 to 3.3 percent or 1.7 million students in 2016. America has also declared it as a valid form of education. So why do so many people dislike homeschooling? Let me get this straight, I'm a public school student. And as a public school student I have some thoughts on homeschooling, most being I don't want to do it. But after I heard about how many people dislike homeschooling for reasons that have been proven to be false. I shifted my opinion. I believe homeschooling should get more respect for being a viable form of education. It gives kids a good education and it also gives families more flexibility and safety.

My first reason for why homeschooling deserves more respect is because it gives kids a good education. The article, The Academic and Social Benefits of Homeschooling by Brian D. Ray and Carlos Valiente, talks about the many advantages of homeschooling as well as some other thoughts surrounding it. The article states, “11 of the 14 peer-reviewed studies on academic achievement found that homeschool students significantly outperformed conventionally schooled children. Both of the publicly available state-provided data sets showed higher-than-average test scores for homeschooled children.” Showing that homeschooling can result in higher grades and scores. There are also a lot of parents who think that the school system is either too fast or too slow for their child and gives their child limitations. Homeschooling is also good for this because homeschoolers can move at a pace that is perfect for them. Meaning that they can understand the work better and sometimes get through work faster than kids at public schools.

My second reason for why homeschooling should get more respect is because of the flexibility and safety of it. one main advantage of homeschooling is the flexibility in schedules. A lot of times, families choose to do homeschooling because they are traveling and want to have the ability to do so without messing up their children’s school program. As said in the article, My View: Common myths about homeschooled kids by Alessandra Oliveira, the author, as a parent of a homeschooled daughter states, “They find learning opportunities throughout the day, wherever they are...Homeschooling has built-in flexibility which allows kids to visit museums, galleries, bookstores and many other places much more frequently than children in traditional schools.” Homeschooling also can be much safer than public schooling. At home kids are able to express themselves without worrying about fitting in or being bullied. They are also not being pushed to do things that they are uncomfortable with. Homeschooling is also shown to not be as pressuring on kids. Parents like it because they feel like they have some control over their child’s education.

Now some people think that not many colleges will accept students who have been homeschooled. However many colleges are changing their criteria for admissions in order to allow homeschoolers to be admitted. And even many years ago, with the increasing popularity of homeschooling, colleges have been adapting their admissions because of the increasing amount of homeschooled applicants.

From the research I’ve done on this topic I've concluded that the decision on whether to be homeschooled or not depends on the child and type of learning they prefer and do better in. Also different beliefs and values family’s have. A lot of kids don't do well in public school but when they switch to homeschooling they do much better, simply because that is the type of learner they are. While your kid may do better in public school, others excel in homeschooling. So instead of trying to think of reasons why homeschooling is bad, let's just appreciate that kids are getting an education that is right for them.

Cancel Culture spreads to schools.
A New York Times article talking about Cancel culture, it brought up a time where a student’s school was trying to cancel them for saying a racial slur. This is what the student was saying about how she felt. “It took some time for L to understand that she had been canceled. She was 15 and had just returned to a school she used to attend. “All the friends I had previously had through middle school completely cut me off,” she said. “Ignored me, blocked me on everything, would not look at me.” This can definitely make the student feel horrible.
