Question 1. What does "information literacy" mean to you?

I understand it as the ability to consciously and accurately search for useful information. After accessing it, knowing how to organize it and use it as the regulations indicate.

Question 2. How will you need information literacy skills in the specific industry in which you will work after graduation?

Information literacy in Biotechnology means being able to search for reliable sources, make sense of the data or research you find, and use that information to solve problems or make informed decisions. In science, where a lot of information is available, it is important to know what details are accurate and useful for your work.

Question 3. Give specific examples ( e.g. as a teacher, a chef, a business manager etc.) of the types of lifelong learning and research you will need to participate in as a successful employee in your specific field ( the program you are studying at Humber College)

Specifically In the field of biotechnology, specifically in information literacy research, it will be useful from the search of data in secondary sources such as databases making use of key aspects such as the use of keywords, or how to reference past research to support a project that I am doing as a biotechnologist.

This information at Academic Integrity module was familiar to me because it is covered in all semesters. However, I was not clear that citation of the use of AI was appropriate, I now know that it should be cited. However, it should be avoided, because it is often not possible to verify the source of the information, which reduces the credibility of the information.

Low and high context

Do you consider yourself to be a high or low context communicator or both? Explain.

Answer

Depending on the context I might use both, but I consider myself a low-context communicator most of the time, as I tend to be direct and explicit, so my messages are detailed to avoid ambiguity.

Example 1

In teamwork, as a leader, I have to give precise and direct indications, to optimise time and be efficient. This is why I use low context, which also allows me to set deadlines and work goals for each of the team members because it is more concise.

Example 2

On the other hand, when I have to tell bad news to a member of my family, I usually use high context, in order to maintain harmony and I know that my family will understand what I want to express in a few words.
