Teaching is a wonderful craft. We certainly learn to hone our skills through our deliberate practice. The exchange of ideas is also very important. One of the things that's lacking most today is the time to sit down and talk about teaching, how we teach and learn, and what works and what doesn't. Dedicating time in a day, week, or month to talk about teaching and outcomes is a very worthwhile thing to do and I am very enthusiastic to be able to share what I do with others.

-Kris

I had the pleasure of visiting Jim Downer's (Monroe Community College) classes and getting to know a new teaching experience. In addition, I loved an article "First things First", which in its final sentence says:

“We hope that our society will tire of gimmick merchants, status salesmen and hidden persuaders, and that the prior call on our skills will be for worthwhile purposes. With this in mind we propose to share our experience and opinions, and to make them available to colleagues, students and others who may be interested.” - First Things First (1964 & 2000) The original First Things First manifesto was published by 22 signatories in: Design, the Architects‘ Journal, the SIA Journal, Ark, Modern Publicity, The Guardian, april 1964. It was renewed in 2000. Thank you! Maurício Augusto Leite - UNESP - Ilha Solteira - SP - Brazil

I was very happy to listen to my mother language (spanish) being practiced by people who have a different language. Knowledge is an adventure and we travel all the time, through our readings or through the dreams and ideas of our students. And visiting other teachers make the experience enjoyable. I visited Elizabeth Johnston and her group of women students about gender literature. Very interesting the way they form study groups and discuss the texts recomended. And she visited me.

I had a wonderful experience visiting my partner's class. It was all in Spanish and I enjoyed every second of it. As a native speaker it was refreshing to participate in a class where we were all speaking Spanish and collectively learning about Mexico's history. It made me want to teach a course all in Spanish! I was also so lucky to leave with a list new of IT tools complemented with a rich and inspiring conversation.
Gracias, Charlie.
Marisol Galarza-Ruiz

It was lovely to see two wonderful women at work, even though only one class was synchronous (Also enjoyed seeing students from Barb's New York class participating in a guest seminar) Pricila's google classroom set up was beautifully produced and seemed like an efficient delivery system. Their warmth helped to sustain me through my exhausting teaching semester.
I am interested in co-writing an article: brigid.magner@rmit.edu.au
RMIT University, Melbourne

I, from the engineering area, was initially apprehensive about being in the group of two professors from the Humanities. Although due to commitments and time zone differences I was not able to actually join my fellow group members' virtual class, I was able to observe new approaches to engage students to participate more actively in expressing their views.
This experience showed that different areas take us out of the common place, and the experience can be more rewarding and innovative.
Thanks Brigid and Barb!

I am interested in co-writing an article about this experience!

Pricila - UNESP-BR
pricila.veiga@unesp.br
