The decorations were put up in the elderly home ( NTUC Income Elderly Home and All Saints Elderly Home ) as well as given to the elderly.

Looking back, I feel that the effort that my schoolmates and I put in in these 2.5 months was well worth it. We have collected a whooping 4747 books, 1000 books more than last year, allowing us to open this giveaway not only to the residents of Kampong Glam but also to members of the public. In addition, I also feel extremely grateful to my schoolmates, their parents and staff members who have generously contributed books to this book drive They made our sorting work at the community club so much easier by donating relevant materials.

Our biggest challenge during this book drive was to sort out books donated by members of the public as we spent many hours sieving out the inappropriate content that they had dropped off at the community club. Among them was a whole school bag full of ledger papers that was dusty and had turned yellow. Tedious as the work may be, we are still very grateful for the overwhelming response from our school and the public. During the giveaway event, I witnessed very heartwarming scenes, such as parents bonding with their children over books. We even see grandparents helping their grandchildren to select books. No amount of words can describe how happy I feel when I see the happy faces of the recipients, adults and children alike.

I feel that our goal for raising awareness for sustainable reading has been achieved as during the giveaway event on the 16th of March, some adults ask when will we be doing the collection again as they would like to drop the books back once their children have read them. They feel that this is a very good initiative and hope that is can be run more often.

Most importantly, I would like to thank my friends for helping out both in school and at the book giveaway event, for this event is only made possible with all their selfless help. They sacrificed their free time after school, and their March holiday to help out in our endeavour. As the sayings goes: 单丝不成线, 独木不成林.

The act of kindness was done on 8 Feb 2024.

It was a meaningful act because it was my first time helping out at a senior day care centre and doing art and craft together with them. It makes me happy to see them enjoy the craft session.

goodie bags containing toothpaste, toothbrush, bar soap 🧼, man shaver and a gratitude card. The act of kindness was for migrant workers to show our appreciation to them. It was a meaningful act as we could show our gratitude to them. What I mean is if there were no migrant workers ,there will be no buildings to live in. And finally I would like to end off by sharing how I felt about the trip. At the start, I felt a little nervous because it was my first time going there. However it was a pleasant surprise. It was fun and enjoyable 😉.
