Restorative justice ultimately checks off a box for the “victim” but rarely changes the stance or opinions of the perpetrator. I find it hard to believe this will change the thought that goes into action even if children are scared straight.

For example, I tried going on a college visit, but my flight back got delayed and I could have gotten an unexcused absence. Additionally, after Seniors get the colleges they have been accepted in, they will want to visit many of them after January, leading to unexcused absences. I don’t believe students should be punished in a 75 minute Reflection Hour for exploring their future. Also, my parents will be taking me on a trip to New York to watch our Band. Many students who will go on this trip, who are not in band, should not get punished in a reflection hour. I think Reflection Hour should only be used for disciplinary action.
