         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>Payload-free worms</strong>&nbsp;are worms that do not contain any code other than the code used to spread themselves. These worms are designed to simply spread and are not created to intentionally damage a host system.&nbsp;<em>However</em>&nbsp;the very act of transmitting worms around a network can cause severe disruptions as network bandwidth is filled or network traffic increased.<br><br><strong>Payloads</strong>&nbsp;can take many forms as worms maliciously disrupt a system as with most&nbsp;<a href="http://padlet.com/Nicolauze/VirusDetection">malware</a>. Types of payload involve making the worm...</div><ul><li>Delete files on the host system</li><li>Encrypts files and demands payment to release them (ransomeware)</li><li>Send attachments via email</li><li>Create a 'backdoor' in an infected machine</li></ul><div><br><strong>Backdoors</strong>&nbsp;allow the worm creator to control an infected computer by bypassing authentication.
