The needs of my students constantly impact the design of the classroom, I have to consider the personalities, behavior challenges, and sensory needs of every child. Students who need to have space to move around go in the back of the room so they can stand or walk without being disruptive. Students with significant or dangerous behaviors go near the door so that they can be quickly evacuated for the safety of the other children. Children who elope are away from the door and often facing the opposite direction from the door. Lights are dim, volume is low to meet the sensory needs of children in the room.
