As a group we are researching ideas on where to go with the Maker’s Movement project and hope to decide on an exact lesson topic this week. During our group meeting time in class, we liked the ideas of making a building and then calculating the area or something along that idea. They will use measurements to find the perimeter and area of the doors, windows, roof etc. I feel this project will pull the creativity out of the students as they productively struggle to find ways to create their house from scratch. Technology is not all about electronics as most people think. It is the use of equipment in applied science which relates to math. The students will become little engineers as they design their houses and focus on the area and perimeter concepts.

Since our project is for the students to be working with finding the perimeter, there are some “worthwhile tasks” that go along with it. They will be constructing a house and will find the perimeter of the shapes that go along with the house. We feel that this is a worthwhile task because finding the perimeter is something they will use later in life. We feel that this activity will keep the students engaged in the project because it is such a hands on activity.
