Venezia was founded in 421. The Veneti, who had been expelled by the Ostrogoths and the Lombards, took refuge in these marshlands in the mouth of the River Po, forming the city of Venice.

I learnt that Venice was built on water and how was it built. In the 5th century, people fled their homes to avoid barbarian conquerors. A marshy lagoon was located just off the mainland and protected from the barbarians who would not cross the water. As invasions continued across Italy more and more people fled until eventually, they realized there was a need for a new city. Building a city on a marshland, however, wasn’t going to be easy. They needed more space and better foundations to build on. To largen the marsh islands they were taking refuge on, they began to dig canals and used wooden planks to shore the banks. They used a similar wooden plant technique to create foundations for their buildings.

The settlers hammered thousands of wooden piles into the mud, each one touching the next until they cut the tops off to reveal a solid wooden platform. These platforms are still below many of the buildings you see today.
Some people have suggested that Venice should be known as the Sinking City and not the Floating City because Venice had made sinking movements.
Throughout November 2019, Venice has been inundated with the city's worst floods in half a century. Photographs and videos spread across the world showing the city’s iconic St Mark’s Square underwater, with a 2-meter-high surge threatening irreparable damage to historic sites such as Saint Mark’s Basilica. While the city has been battling rising water levels since the 5th century, the recent floods, set against the context of climate change, have spurred debate about how coastal cities are vulnerable to rising sea levels, and how the damage can be mitigated against.
Due to the rise of global warming, Venice faces the threat of sinking faster than we imagine due to the rising sea levels. 

If I can, after the covid-19 pandemic, I would make a trip down to Venice, Italy with my family.

Malta is an island country located in the central Mediterranean Sea. I would like to travel there as there are foods that I would like to try. For example the Aljotta – Maltese Fish Soup and also the Ftira Għawdxija – Gozitan Pizza and many other Maltese foods. 

I would like to visit the country for the scenic views as the islands of Malta are dominated by limestone formations, and much of their coastlines consist of steep or vertical limestone cliffs indented by bays, inlets, and coves.

I would also like to travel there because of the mixture of Arab and Italian traditions. The Maltese are highly literate and have a deep appreciation of the arts. There are also many festivals there which would show me their culture.

I would definitely travel there once the situation on Covid-19 gets better.

 I learnt that there are still many remains that shows the long past Malta has. The earliest archaeological remains in Malta date from about 5000 BCE. Malta's prehistoric megalithic temples and underground system of chambers.

The culture of the Native Hawaiians is about 1,500 years old and has its origins in the Polynesians who voyaged to and settled Hawaii.

When hiking in Hawaii, there is a sunrise at Lanikai. When the sun rises, it colours the mountains, beach and water behind the twin islands pink yellow and orange.

There is a spot in Hawaii called the China Wall. It isn't the Great Wall Of China, it is a beautiful place all made out of lava rocks. This place is seldom talked about and heard of. It has really deep and clear blue water, having whales and turtles.

Hawaii has many days and festivals that not a lot of people here would celebrate. Like King Kamehameha Day

June 11th is the day of King Kamehameha, the first king of Hawaii and responsible for the union of the archipelago under the same kingdom. Many islands celebrate with music festivals, parades, Hula dances and covering the great statue of the king with leis, the flower garlands from Hawaii.

Another day is Lei day. Lei day is the day of Hawaii's flower garlands. It's during the first week of May matching worker's holiday. Lei are a very important part of Hawaii's culture and image and parades and dances take place all over the archipelago. It's a tradition that young ones make Hawaii typical performances. Everyone where's a lei around their neck on Lei day, obviously!

And Aloha Festivals. Aloha Festivals are held in September, right after the summer, and they're some of the most important events in Oahu Island. Aloha festival -or Aloha week- holds concerts, activities and parades related to the Hawaii culture. It was first held in 1946 by the Hawaii inhabitants to go back to their own culture and identity after World War II. Ever since, the population prepares the festival as a sign of Hawaii's resurgence after the war.
