Lyric Analysis

"You ever had somebody say that they was down for you?
They made it feel so real like they really down for you
They clown on you everytime they turn around on you
They not loyal, they happy they looking down on you" D.T.B(Interlude)

He's talking about how people made it seem like they were there for him and would do anything for him but behind his back they would speak badly about him and envy him.

"I never knew I'd make it this far, it feels bizarre
But you know my energy large, like a Qu'ran
And you know I work too hard, I came too far
I'm happy I'm still alive
'Cause half of my N*, they either died or in the system
Then if I ain't start rapping, I swear to God I'd have been with them" Me and my guitar A Boogie wit Da hoodie.

In these lyrics, he's talking about how he never thought music would take him this far and how it would help change his life. If he didn't pursue music, because of the community he was in and the patterns they have, he would've been going through 1 of the 2 expectations young Black boys in his community go through daily.

These 2 songs tie in together to me because of how he grew up and the expectations others had of him. For him to make it big and be able to help his community and family out is a big thing, and the fact that the people who grew up with him and struggled with him aren't the first ones to applaud him and be proud of his accomplishments is crazy to think about.

I picked A Boogie as my artist because I like his sound and he doesn't sound like anyone else. I also like how he talks about different struggles and heartbreaks that he's been through. I also like the way he represents where he's from and you hear a lot of New York Influence in his songs. His music could help when your in a bad or happy mood so no matter how I'm feeling I know that I can turn to his music.

The Bronx is one of the 5 boroughs in New York City. It makes up about 1.443 million people. The Bronx is where Hip Hop originated about 51 years ago on the East Coast. Many influential Artists and Producers like Fat Joe, GrandmasterFlash, KRS-one, Dj Kool Herc, Afrika Bambaataa, and more originate from the Bronx. Back then music style prioritized spoken word and attentive lyrics. Lately, The Rap style in the Bronx has been mostly Drill music/ Gangsta Rap. The sound and style of music have changed throughout the years but Overall The Bronx has a very aggressive and hard-hitting style. The Bronx has a lot of historic places but right now they have a very popular concept store called Bronx Native where they embrace everything the Bronx has to offer through Art, media, apparel, and events. Like different types of graffiti and Clothing that Influenced the Style of The Bronx. It is still one of the most influential places for Hiphop today and the influence continues to grow daily.

Some of the people who Influenced A Boogie wit da hoodie are 50 Cent, Jay-Z, Max B, and Lauryn Hill. He said that he is influenced by these artists because they did more than just rap or focus on their music. They made a difference within their community and helped tell a story within their music. He looks up to them because they put their different talents to use and they turned it into something bigger. But out of all of them, he especially looks up to Jay-Z and 50 Cent because they expanded their brand and invested in different products and producing that helped set them up to be on top early in their careers. They thought strategically about how they were profiting off making music and helped themselves in a business aspect. To him that made them more than artists.

A boogie Wit da Hoodie has a very street style type of fashion. His style is very common in NYC. He wears a lot of baggy clothing like hoodies, baggy jeans, sweatpants, tracksuits, graphic tees, puffer jackets, sweaters, timberland boots, and sneakers. He also wears a lot of beanies and baseball caps in his outfits. He definitely keeps up with the fashion trends in New York and continues to put his own spin on them. He doesn't wear large amounts of jewelry but he usually has on some type of chain or watch with his outfits. He follows a lot of early 90s rapper trends and incorporates the new styles that we have now and makes it his own.

In Hip Hop one art style that's very popular is Graffiti. Graffiti originated in the 60's in Philadelphia but really took off in the 70's in NYC. People began writing their names and tags on building all over the city. Graffiti can be used in a positive and negative way. People use graffiti to help express the things that happen within their community. People have used graffiti to make memorials and portraits to honor important people in their communities. They also use it to share opinions or values that they have that they want to share. People also use graffiti in a negative way. People have used it to vandalize and damage public and private property. It can also be seen as defacing areas without permission. People have also used graffiti to be malicious and start riots within the community.
