The paradox entails that we feel real emotions towards things that do not exist/ are fictional. This is interesting for us personally and as teachers, because we can make our students aware of this and incorporate this in teaching literature. We can also use this knowledge when talking with students about their reading, film, tv-show experience.

What are we going to research?
There are numerous theories that try to explain how the paradox works.  These theories will help us along the way of understanding the paradox. Other topics that will come back in our research are the matter of existence and emotions. These are things that are of importance in the ultimate goal of the research.

We are hoping to be able to answer a few questions. Can the paradox of fiction be solved and how? What are the role of emotions and existence? The pretend theory revolves around the idea that the emotions directed towards fiction are not 100% real. We would pretend that the fictional things are real as part of a game. everything we feel is, because we commit tot he game, we don't literally feel that.
Critics argue that even f you don't commit to the pretend of fiction, you can end up feeling emotions.

The thought theory says that the emotions talked about are just different than ones elicited by real events. We don't need t believe they actually exist, but we need a representation in the form of a thought. Although most people support this theory, its credibility is often questions as it doesn't explain how and why the emotions are conclusively not real.

The illusion theory says the paradox works, because a partial believe in fictional entities is in order. teh writer explains that the paradox has three main arguments: we feel real emotions evoked by fiction, we need to believe something exist in order to feel real emotions & fictional entities do not exist. The paradox is a paradox, because these three arguments can not be true at the same time. 

The writer immediate;y states that the paradox does not understand how emotions work and as a result that the paradox does not exist. that being said the paradox still matters, because it opens up more areas of research about emotions, fiction and existence.

Some emotions work in different ways from eachother.  Just because some emotions lack some of the aspects, doesnt mean these emotions are not real. These emotions still come along with most of the aspects.

Why are we moved by fiction? Di we need to approach different emotions differently? The writer raises these questions, but doesn't really asnwer them.

He makes statements about certain fictional characters,which are not correct. How can statements about fiction be incorrect if they do not exist?

Language has made it possible to even talk about fictional things, so it would have to ahve a role in the existence of fictional characters. Language allows us to talk about concepts and imaginary worlds.
This is also where the world of discourse comes in. The Harry Potter world exists in its own universe of discourse, where statements about it can be true or untrue.

The rest of the video is very worthwhile watching, but it matters less for our research.
