Since I have an Indian last name, my mom really wanted me to have an Irish first name. First, my parents wanted to name me Paige, but then they realized my initials would've been P U, so they made that my middle name. My parents ended up going with Kayleigh in the end because they liked the name and it's Irish.

I think my parents chose my first name simply because they liked it, but coincidentally or not, my mother's name also starts with an H, so we have the same first/last initials. My last name is probably English - there's a similar name "Davies" from Wales, but my paternal ancestors seem to be mostly from a part of England near Wales.

Both my first and last names have alternate spellings, so I'm used to spelling them out over the phone, but in Canada, at least, that was never a problem. When I lived in Germany, however, my first name was CONSISTENTLY spelled wrong ("Hanna" instead of "Hannah"). People would type in my email address, which contains my full name, and still spell my name wrong in the body of the email. They'd respond to text messages clearly showing my name and still spell it wrong. They didn't really pronounce it right either, but I didn't care so much since it was more of an accent thing, but the constant spelling errors did bug me.
