If you are wondering who provided the land and is in charge of it, that would be the landowner. Sharecropping was found most in the southern countries like Texas, where they grew labor intensive crops like sugar cane and cotton. The result of sharecropping was believed to be beneficial to newly freed slaves. But in reality, it was an exploitative and economic stagnation. Problems that arose with sharecropping where debt and poverty from landowners hoarding money of Black worker's labor as well as high interest rates, and unpredictable harvests.

Although slavery was abolished, whites still believed that they were superior or better that people of other color like blacks. This discrimination prompted the passing of the Jim Crow Laws, which gave blacks access to transportation, education, housing, and employment. Sharecroppers were provided a small place to live, like a shack, although being in debt to their landlord. Of course, the landowners and debtors liked sharecropping because it benefited them with profits and crops.

Of course, the people who benefited from this system were the landowners, hoarding all the money the sharecroppers were supposed to have, which got them into debt and poverty. Interestingly, tenant farmers were more financially stable than sharecroppers. Sharecropping also affected the activities people engaged in, being more and more people favored by the sharecropping system, mainly people in southern states like Texas. The reason for this was because the crops grown from sharecropping, cotton, were very profitable in trade and selling.

There were some political parties that arose from sharecropping like The People's Party, a Texas Populism movement, and it did benefit candidates , like James E.
