The nominee is very knowledgeable across different disciplines and although very busy, he always finds time to help his colleagues and juniors. He is never judgemental, is very good and patient with mentoring, and he is a fun colleague to have around. It's rare to have a humble demeanour with the level of experience and knowledge that he has. He helped me throughout the PhD by providing valuable feedback, is collaborative when working together as part of a team, and has helped many students with useful advice and with actions e.g. helping with experimental work when things get frustrating or stressful.

Ian is genuinely one of the best colleagues I’ve ever worked with. He is endlessly reliable, supportive, and approachable, and he creates a great environment simply by how he works with people. He tackles complex challenges with integrity and calm, sorting things out smoothly. Ian is generous with credit (even when the magic is mostly his!) and always offers help before you even know you need it. With endless patience, he guided me into the mysterious world of finances, turning something once terrifying into something I could understand. In Ian’s universe of numbers, he’s a solid 10/10!

She very kindly acted as a reviewer for a book chapter on Chinese Science Fiction in a recent field-leading collection that I edited. More recently, she provided keen insight into a complex discussion of Chinese characters in a monograph for the EUP book series that I edit. In both cases, Hongling set an example of generosity across School and Subject boundaries.

His positive and collaborative attitude goes beyond team lines, extending to supporting other teams as the need arises. He has a wealth of experience with project work, and while he is a great team member, he also takes ownership of his own work and contributions.

The JWNC team makes an exceptional contribution to a thriving, supportive, and inclusive research culture across the University. They combine deep technical expertise with a strong ethos of care, collaboration, and professionalism, ensuring that researchers at all career stages feel supported, welcomed, and able to do their best work.
A defining aspect of the team’s impact is its commitment to people development. The JWNC delivers extensive undergraduate and postgraduate training, providing high-quality inductions, tool training, and ongoing support that build skills, confidence, and independence in the lab. Alongside this, the team leads on health and safety, standard operating process development, and quality assurance—often invisible work that is nevertheless fundamental to a positive research culture and to earning the trust of users.

Through this supportive and collaborative approach, it supports over 40 academic groups and around 200 researchers, underpinning ~£12M per year in University research income plus around £3M in income to KNT. Beyond day-to-day operations, the team actively builds community through initiatives such as the user conference, NanofabUK, and many stakeholder visits etc. Their commitment has had a very positive impact on me personally, enabling ambitious research and making JWNC a genuinely supportive and inspiring place to work.

Koko Kwok-Ho Lam is a very busy man yet always makes time for my questions and supervision needs. Even as an early PhD student I remember feeling like my contributions and questions were valued; I think this is mostly due to the environment he fosters with individuals and his research group as a whole. Koko loves finding opportunities to collaborate with other researchers and encourages others to do so, especially when he knows your expertise may be a better fit. Koko has a fantastic approach to research, and this trickles down so that all his students benefit.

He cares about good service and good outcomes, and has been really welcoming to me as a new team member helping me settle in.

I’d like to recognise the members of the Strategic Research Initiatives team in Research Services who in my experience collectively personify professional competency and care. A commitment to collegiality sits at the heart of all their interactions and they navigate the complexities of collaboration across disciplines with integrity and fairness, meeting colleagues where they are, listening to understand their needs, and supporting them to succeed.

School of Medicine, Dentistry and Nursing is home of about 120 PGR students. Our School’s research addresses a variety of important clinical and biological questions aiming to improve health and well-being of people in Scotland and worldwide. Our research is diverse, including patient, public, data and or lab-based, often interdisciplinary and innovative. This also poses challenges to our PGR students, who will face completely new dimensions of work, knowledge and skills. Hence, our SoMDN PGR Team plays an important role in our community, formulating a productive “nest” for our students, making the study environment as exciting, approachable and “safe” for exploration. Our wonderful PGR Team consists of Professor Andrea Sherriff (PG Convener, Dentistry, Deputy Director of Postgraduate Research), Dr Greg Kotronoulas (PG Convener, Nursing and Healthcare), Professor Emilie Combet (PG Convener, Human Nutrition), Dr Jenny Clancy (PG Convener, Anatomy), Mr Allan Golder and Mr Mark Johnstone (PG Convener, Surgery), Ms Janette McBride, Dr Olena Bolotova and Mrs Julie-Anne Marshall (PGR Support), to all of whom I am grateful. At the bottom of our PGR Team, there is trust, strongly grounded by our passion towards the care for the students and by our belief in the value of what academia can bring to future generations.

Every Wednesday at noon a group of colleagues drawn from College research offices and the Strategic Research Initiatives team meet to review and consider new funding opportunities, how the Uni is positioned to respond, and the support that might be needed for this. Whilst the cast of characters can change from week to week the ethos of collegiality and a commitment to collaboration remains constant, recognising that this is a shared endeavour and that together we achieve more. Effective integration across research development support relies entirely on colleague’s willingness to invest in the underpinning relational infrastructure. This type of ‘work’ is often less visible and yet it creates much value for the University. So, this is a shout out of appreciation to all those colleagues doing the invisible building of relational infrastructure and the nurturing of goodwill that keeps things ticking along.

The College of Social Science’s team of ethics reviewers play an integral role in safeguarding the integrity and robustness of its staff and student’s research projects. This highly skilled and experienced group of colleagues has worked tirelessly to reduce the average completion time of the review process from 82 to 48 days in the last year despite experiencing a 28.8 percent year-on-year increase in the number of applications received. This is a remarkable achievement given also that significant changes have been made to our ethics procedures during the same period.
Our reviewers go above and beyond to provide constructive guidance to applicants that help them design and deliver high-quality academic research and are crucial for sustaining a collegial and ethically grounded research culture in CoSS. Their commitment is essential to maintaining research excellence across the college and its five Schools.

Dave is someone who gets stuff done. He's a problem-solver, enabling others to do their work, and providing a solid/safe pair of hands to cope with the most delicate of tasks. I've learned a huge amount from him simply by working closely with him in recent times, and I'm confident I'll continue to do so. Fundamentally he's a genuine, helpful, purposeful colleague that makes the University a better place to be in.

She is committed to best practices and a strong, supportive team culture, while being generous in her research approach: she welcomes others in her research space, shares her deep knowledge of chemistry, and drives new models of practice that have the potential to revolutionise how we do research.
