Third Parties:
Third parties of the Grape Workers Strike of 1965-1970 were significant in the support gained during Cesar Chavez's boycott campaign. Chavez called upon the National Farm Workers Association (NFWA) for assistance and numbers to help gain organization and solidarity in their efforts (174). Other unaffiliated parties would wind up joining the opposition. Farm owners hired security guards to intimidate the protesters (175). When the sheriffs planned to arrest protesters for arbitrary reasons, local clergyman David Havens stood at the head of the crowd and was arrested on camera (176). This further solidified the protesters and public's taste of distrust toward the farm owners and police. Without these third parties association with the cause, the boycott would not have been as successful as it turned out to be.

Posted by Zachary Van Bommel
Group 3
