this is the study of the mind and how we think. This can also be called Behaviourism. As you can see form the picture below the cognitive psychology is a huge subjects and it has many options and choices that are into the cognitive psychology. But it is also the a mental process of acquiring and sustaining information within the brain. I would say that relating to the public sector such as in the army it can cause a very big impact on the sustainability of your memories in the long term memory. This is because in some occasion when you are a soldier and you are fighting an enemy country the impacts of what is going to give you will make a big effect on your daily life when they are coming back from battle.

Findings from the cognitive theory of psychology helps to improve our understanding on how people form, store, and recall certain memories. By knowing more about these processes, psychologist can begin to find new ways to help improve peoples memory and potentially find a solution for long term memory issues, such as dementia.

This would benefit the public services sector, especially the police force as more and more elderly people are developing memory issues as they age and sadly whilst the risk of them being a victim of memory problems increases so is the risk of them becoming a victim of a crime, this includes Fraud. Therefore, when interviewed by the police about a crime that they are a victim of they are unable to provide a suitable statement due to forgetting important aspects of this crime, this could mean that the criminals are getting away with it.

Cognitive theory is an approach to psychology that, by understanding your thought processes, attempts to explain human behaviour. In logical behavior, thought patterns, and mental growth, cognitive theories of crime describe criminal behaviour as a defect. Cognitive theories also help us understand how the personality and level of intelligence of an individual is related to delinquency.

- Melissa
