Hi. my name is Lisa West. Before becoming an elementary teacher I was a Preschool Special Education Paraprofessional for four years and a Class Within a Class Paraprofessional for five years. In 2004, I graduated from Drury University with my Bachelor’s in General Education with an emphasis in Elementary Education. I then taught third grade full time for two years and job shared for three years. In 2009, I decided to be a stay at home mom and follow my Army husband around the country. When my husband retired in 2016, and our youngest started kindergarten, I decided the time was right to go back to teaching.

In 2017, I was hired by the Waynesville School District, where I am currently teaching third grade. I am also a part of our third grade district’s Social Studies Curriculum team, ELA Vertical Alignment team, and Quality Control team. On these teams I use technology to help create assessments for our third graders.

Interesting Fact About Me

When I asked my 9 year old what he thought an interesting fact about me was....he said it's that I'm cheap. I had to laugh because he knows me oh to well. I wouldn't say that I'm cheap though, just thrifty. I enjoy yard selling and looking for those one in million finds, such as the plate that I bought for a quarter that is worth $1,000 or the industrial cotton candy machine that I found for $20. Though, I have to say my favorite find was the yard sale my husband and I purchased for $150 that was full of teacher supplies. I took out what I wanted, and then we turned around and sold all the left overs and made a huge profit.

I use technology on a daily basis in my third grade classroom. Some of the programs I use with my students are Google Forms, Google Slides, online textbooks, Prodigy, Flipgrid, Google Classroom, and other district approved websites. Using Google Slides is one of my favorite programs due to the fact that it is easy to share with my teammates. I also enjoy using Google Forms, due to that my students can receive instant feedback.

In my personal life I use technology for taking online classes, shopping, editing pictures, and facebooking. Technology has allowed me to keep in contact with family members and to continue my education without traveling.
