In 2018 he eliminated rent control in Ontario to incentivize developers to build rental apartments, and in 2020 he passed Bill 184 which effectively incentivizes renovictinos through a combination of making evictions easier and imposing vacancy decontrol (meaning an empty unit can be rented at any rate).

We plan to present our petition for comprehensive rent control to Doug Ford, as he has the power to reinstate these policies.

The call of our campaign is to reinstate comprehensive rent control to protect all tenants from arbitrary rent hikes and ensure a fair and balanced approach for landlords and tenants. Our aim is to urge the government to prioritize the well-being of Ontario's residents and restore effective rent control regulations for accessible and stable housing. By reverting to a system where any rent increases, even between tenants, must be approved by the Landlord and Tenant Board, we can provide a fair and balanced approach that safeguards the rights and well-being of both landlords and tenants.
