Recently, however, an archipelago of mountains within a part of the ecoregion known as Bushmanland have been found to harbor both Nama Karoo and Succulent Karoo type vegetation, as well as a diverse assemblage of succulents endemic to the archipelago itself (Desmet 2000). The Nama-Karoo has a high species richness of nomadic birds, and both the Succulent and Nama-Karoo have high species richness of larks (Alaudidae) compared with other biomes.
