Animal Farm is literally a story about animals who rebel against their farmer and rebel to create their own society if animals. The original farmer is disliked throughout the farmer so they rebel and manage to drive him off. Though not said, at the beginning of the rebellion, the two unspoken leaders of sorts are Napoleon and Snowball. They debate over what should go on and how things should work until Snowball is driven off. Since only Napoleon is left, he is the unspoken commander. He uses fear to instill rules unfair to the rest of the animals but for his own and the other pigs´ advantage. This goes throughout the the whole book until the end when the humans and pigs become almost indistinguishable, the exact opposite of the reason they rebelled in the first place.

At this there was a terrible baying sound outside, and nine enormous dogs wearing brass studded collars came bounding into the barn. They dashed straight for Snowball, who only sprang from his place just in time to escape their snapping jaws. In a moment he was out the door and they were after him. Too amazed and frightened to speak, all the animals crowded through the door to watch the chase. Snowball was racing across the long pasture that led to the road. He was running as only a pig can run, but the dogs were close on his heels. Suddenly he slipped and it seemed certain that they had him. Then he was up again, running faster than ever; then the dogs were gaining on him again. One of them all but closed his jaws on Snowball's tail, but snowball whisked it free just in time. Then he put on an extra spurt and, with few inches to spare, slipped through a hole in the hedge, was seen no more.

This clip shows the execution of John Coffey in the movie The Green Mile. He is an innocent man condemned to die under false pretenses. The action is carried out with some people horrified and miserable at the sight. This represent fear because if some are punished by death, others will avoid the mistake made or. supposedly made by some. This is similar to the book when Napoleon carries out the execution of the other animals. They are executed without hesitation while other animals are horrified at this act. This action shows the animals the consequences to actions deemed unjust.

This image shows the police using force to reprimand this man for something. The police are using violence to seemingly make this person stop what it was he was doing. This can relate to fear because the police can use brute force to hold back the population with their weapons to instill fear so people won't act out. Similar to this, Napoleon used his guard dogs as muscle to keep the other animals in line.

The first two things that suggest this is an unfair dictatorship is the child labor that is forced unto children. Secondly, media that opposes the dictator is suppressed and usually not heard form in the public. No one opposes his rule either, and his small party has total control over the country. Any threats to his regime. similar to Napoleon, is beaten or forced to stay quite either physically or mentally forced. He uses brute force to secure power similar once again, to Napoleon. He uses harsh punishment to keep the population in line, and systematically tortures people as an example.

Systematic state-mandated child labor and political and journalistic oppression are two reasons why the unassuming country of Uzbekistan scores so lowly on Freedom House’s list.Though Uzbekistan technically operates in a bicameral, or two-party system, there are no true opposition to Islam Karimov’s Communist Party. Karimov has run essentially uncontested for over two decades and has systematically threatened, stifled, and jailed, any dissenters, who have threatened his autocracy.

This image shows one part of Islam Karimov's grueling rule. He used child labor to profit for his own gain. He forced children by law to work or else punishments would be forced unto the child or family. This is unjust and similar to the ways of Napoleon in which he used the animals for labor for his own gain and was fruitless for the ones doing the work. Fear is used here to use labor for his own gain and any opposition will be reprimanded.

Things behind closed doors, so to say, is knowledge not known by the public because this could change their opinions and revolt. This is similar to Napoleons tactics, how he is corrupt and attempts to keep secrets by working with "enemies of animal farm". This relates to fear because if anyone opposes him and his corruption, they will be tortures, killed, blackmail, or jailed to prevent the word spreading.

To conclude, Napoleon's and Karimov's regime are very similar to each other. They rule with an iron fist, holding power using fear tactics to hold power. They use fear for others to do labor for them. Napoleon using his dogs, while Karimov uses torture and blackmail. They both use fear to force others into labor for their own profit while the ones doing the true work gain little to nothing for their work. Corruption is also there with any opposition being killed or blackmailed also. Fear plays a major role in the rise and hold of power in any dictatorship and without fear, there is no reason for any of the population to hold back and stay quiet.
