Abstinence is the only 100% way to avoid teenage pregnancy or STD's. Abstinence can be defined many different way's, but the most common is refraining from any types of sexual acts with a partner. " Used continuously, abstinence is 100 percent effective in preventing pregnancy. It also prevents STDs. "(Section 7.3).

Condoms are the only form of birth control (besides abstinence) to prevent STD's as well. While condoms are effective they are not 100% safe and effective. " Polyurethane condoms are an effective alternative if either partner has a latex allergy. Natural/ lambskin condoms do not prevent the spread of STDs because of the presence of tiny pores (holes) that may allow viruses such as HIV, hepatitis B, and herpes to spread. "(Section 7.3). Abstinence is the best way to prevent unexpected pregnancy's but condoms are an effective form of birth control.

I have a friend who had a teenage pregnancy. She was 18 and had just graduated from high school and was excited to go on to college, because of the baby she had to drop out of school her first year of college and come back to her home town to try and make enough money to support her and her child. " Being continuously abstinent is the only way to be absolutely sure that you won't have an unintended pregnancy "(Section 7.3). Abstinence was the only way to ensure she would not get pregnant.
