This division wasn't enough for the Flemish people (Etnic group), they wanted more cultural autonomy. As a consequence of that Belgium established 3 cultural communities. 1. Dutch Cultural Community (which became the Flemish Community)

2. French Cultural Community (which became the French Community)

3. German Cultural Community (which became the German-speaking Community).

After this the French felt the need of economic powers, so Belgium had one last change and divided the country in 3 regions and gave them economic competencies.
