There are many similarities and differences between the main characters in “Stella by Starlight” and “The Long Ride.”One way the main characters are similar is Stella and Jamila are both facing racial discrimination. The story states that Stella has to go to different schools because of her skin color. Blacks had to stay away from whites so they could not be in the same school. Jamila also has to go to different schools than whites. This means that Stella and Jamila are both facing racial discrimination because of segregation. One way the main characters are different is Stella wants to be perfect in her grades. Jamila wants to fit in because of her skin color. For example Stella wants to be perfect in her writing so she tries to get better at night. Stella stays up really late every night trying to practice because her grades are bad. Contrastingly, Jamila wants to fit in because she doesn’t like to be judged by her color in school, Tanisha bullied her for that. Tanisha was the popular kid who didn’t like her for the color of her skin. This proves that Stella wants to be perfect by her writing and Jamila wants to fit in by her skin color. The reason is because Stella wants to get better grades and Jamila wants to be treated the same as everyone else.

There are many similarities and differences between the themes in Making Bombs For Hitler and The War That Saved My Life. One way the themes are similar is both characters learn to never give up. For example, Lida learns to never give up when she is rescued by the Americans and finds a letter written by her sister. When she read the letter she knew that she would be able to find her sister. Moreover, Ada learns to never give up when the horse she is trying to ride knocks her off. Ada just gets back up on the horse and tries again. This proves that the themes are the same because both characters go through different things but at the end, they learn the same thing.

One way the themes are different is both characters go through different things to learn the theme.

There are many similarities and dissimilarities between the conflicts in “Fire From the Rock” and “One Crazy Summer”. One similarity between the two is that both external conflicts revolve around racism and inequality. As an example, in “Fire From the Rock” the main conflict revolves around whether the main character should participate in the desegregation of schools and help protest the inequality. And the main conflict in “One Crazy Summer” revolves around the broken bond between the main characters and her siblings' relationship with their mother who is very involved with the Black Panther Party and how getting involved with the movement affects them. This proves that both conflicts have to do with inequality because in one story the external conflict is about desegregation of schools and the other is about an involvement in a racial inequality protest group. However, one thing the conflicts do not have in common is the main inner conflict the character faces. To illustrate, in “One Crazy Summer” the main inner conflict for Delphine is the struggle of trying to take care of her sisters while doing what they went to Oakland for, to get to know their mother. But, in “Fire From the Rock” the main inner conflict Sylvia faces is deciding whether to do what she thinks is better for herself or what others want her to do. For example, in “Fire From the Rock” Sylvia has a hard time figuring out what she wants to do for herself because everyone she knows from the people at her church to her own boyfriend are trying to push and pull her in different directions. Whereas in “One Crazy Summer” Delphine has to keep her sisters from arguing while trying to form a bond with their mother who wants nothing to do with them and tries to interact with them as little as she can. This evidence proves that the conflicts the characters face are different because the characters have different inner struggles. One faces extreme amounts of pressure and responsibility to make things work with her family while the other is stuck in the middle of a tug of war over her future.

Both “Fire From the Rock” and “The Rock And The River” have similarities and differences between their conflicts.

A way the conflicts are similar is because in both books Silvia and Sam are treated unfairly because of their skin color. For instance, Sylvia and other black students don’t get the Same schooling as the white kids, which is unfair because then they don’t get the Same chances. While the white students get fresh new books Sylvia's school gets all the worn old books from the big school. For Sam ,his conflict is being mistreated by police because of his or his family's skin color. Sam’s brother was shot and killed in a car, because there was a gun in the glove box.He was just trying to get the registration for the car. But the gun just dropped out and he was shot because they thought he was reaching for it. This shows that they are being mistreated because of their skin color. Cause Sylvia,Sam,his brother, and many black students are punished in life just because of the way they look and where they are from.

One way these conflicts are different is because of the situation. For Sam he feels he is being mistreated because of how police and the court system treat black people. For example the situation for Sam is not a everyday situation. He and others get pulled over and being held at gunpoint for not even speeding. It's unnecessary. After stick was shot the three others in the car were laid on their stomachs with guns to the back of them. That is not the right way to deal with the situation.Sylvia feels that all people deserve an equal education. It should not matter if they are black or white. This is shown by her wanting to integrate with other white students. This proves that the conflicts are different because, in “Fire From the Rock” the police and justice system are not really talked about and the main focus is equal schooling. But in “The Rock And The River” they mainly touch on police and the court system and it seems Sam does not care about equal schooling

characters

There are many similarities and differences within the main characters in ¨Making Bombs For Hitler¨ and ¨Under A War-Torn Sky.¨

similarities

One way the main characters are similar is how they both are brave. In ¨Making Bombs For Hitler¨ one way Lida was brave was when she lied to the soldier. On page 11 in ¨Making Bombs For Hitler,¨ Luka, Lida´s friend says ¨figure out a skill, and say you're older.¨later on on page 34 Lida says to the soldier that she is 13, rather than her real age, 10. If Llida had gotten caught telling this lie, or even if she did not lie at all, she would have been killed. In ``Under A War-Torn Sky´´ Henry had to be brave by fighting in the war, Henry also had to be mentaly brave by handling the death of his friend Dan who died when they jumped out the plane together. On page 44, in ¨Under A War-Torn Sky¨ Henry yells ¨N000000000!¨as Dan falls to his death. This shows that henry did care for Dan, and was upset by his death. From that point on henry was all alone and had to get himself back on his own.

differences

But the main characters are also different in some ways. One way the main characters are different is that they are from different countries. In ¨Making Bombs For Hitler¨, Lida is ukranian. On page 7 in ¨Making Bombs For Hitler¨ a soldier said ¨stay in there, rusain swine¨ but Lida replied with ¨why is he calling us russian? We are ukrainian¨ This tells us that Lida is ukrainian. And in ¨Under A war-Torn Sky¨, Henry is an american. On page 50 in ¨under a war-torn sky¨, the man picking up Henry said, ``Do they not teach you history in america?¨ this confirmed to me that Dan was american.

There are many similarities and differences between the conflicts in “Prisoner B” and “Making Bombs For Hitler.” One reason the conflicts are the same is they both are getting punished for who they are.

For example Lida is treated differently and fed differently because where she comes from and in “Prisoner B'' he is singled out by guards and gustapos in every concentration camp. This shows that they get punished for who they are because they get the worst treatment and they can’t do anything about who they are and it gets them in trouble. However there are differences between the conflicts. One reason why the conflicts are different is in “

Making Bombs For Hitler” Lida is worried about her sister because of the things that happen to little kids at concentration camps, and she is scared of losing her but in “Prisoner B” he is all alone because his whole family is dead and only has to worry about himself. This shows that they have very different problems and situations because Lida is worrying about herself and her sister and that could be a lot of stress but he only has to worry about himself.

Secondly, there are also many similarities and differences between the conflicts in the two stories,” The Boy In Striped Pajamas,” and,” Making Bombs For Hitler.” Furthermore, one way they are similar in that they both want WWII/The Holocaust to end. For example, in the story,” Boy In Striped Pajamas,” Bruno wants to just play with Shmuel, who is a starving jew who is stuck in a concentration camp, but he can’t because they are on opposite sides of the fence, if they were to cross this fence there could be dire consequences such as death. In the story,” Making Bombs For Hitler,” Lida wants to leave the concentration camp, and find her little sister, but she knows that if she is to leave the camp then she will be shot. This proves that the two conflicts are similar because they both believe that The Holocaust is making things very inconvenient. Even though these two stories are very similar, they are also very different. One way these conflicts are different is that one of the characters is a victim, and the other is a survivor. For example, in the story,” The Boy In Striped Pajamas,” Bruno tries to help Shmuel find his dad because the Nazis took him away without an explanation. After all, Jews were considered subhuman, but then they were taken into a dark room with the lights out. they end up dying with each other making him a victim of the holocaust. This contrasts with,” Making Bombs For Hitler,” Where Lida gets taken from the camp by US soldiers and gets taken to recovery camps, to eventually go on to reunite with her sister. This shows that they contrast because both of them are exposed to the holocaust, but one of them lived, and the other died. In conclusion, these two stories are similar and different in many ways.

There are many similarities and differences between the themes in “Making Bombs For Hitler”, and “The War Below.” One way the themes are similar is because both the characters learn that you shouldn’t stop when you are going through something tough. For example, in “Making Bombs For Hitler”, Lida is stuck at a labor camp worrying for her sister’s safety and she keeps going through the work with the inspiration of finding her in the future. Similar to how Luka longed to see Lida in “The War Below” and he keeps going on his journey to escape the war so he can see her again. This means that both characters had to endure extreme amounts of pain, and it paid off because they got to see their loved ones again. One way the themes are different is because Lida used her sister as inspiration while Luka longed so hard to see Lida again that it made it harder for his journey to the mountains. For example, in “Making Bombs For Hitler,” Lida keeps thinking about her sister and that causes her to keep pushing harder so she could get out of there and find her sister. In contrast, Luka from “The War Below” really missed Lida and regretted leaving her at the labor camp so when he thought of her, it made it harder to continue the journey across the mountains. This shows that even though the themes are similar, the characters experienced it in opposite ways.

The stories “Making Bombs For Hitler” by Marsha Skrypuch and “The War That Saved My Life” by Kimberly Brubaker Bradley, are very similar but very different at the same time. These stories can be compared and contrasted to see the similarities and differences of the characters, conflicts, and themes throughout the stories. One story is about a young girl who is taken to a concentration camp and has to find her sister, while the other is about a young girl who has to move to a new home because of the war. These two girls are going through the same war and having some of the same struggles But, if you peer a little deeper into the stories you can see that these stories are very similar. In both stories you can see that their struggles are very similar when taken to a new place.

There are many ways to see the similarities and differences in the main characters Lida (“Making Bombs For Hitler”) and Ada (“The War That Saved My Life”). One way the characters are similar is because both of them are young girls who are very brave and know how to be caring for others. For example in “Making Bombs For Hitler,” Lida was taking care of her friend Zenia, when she found out her friend was Jewish. She then gave Zenia her cross so she could survive. This is important to notice because it means Lida wanted to save her friend over her own life. Ada is also caring and brave because she always took care of her younger brother Jamie and put him above herself and her needs. For example, Ada defends Jamie when their mother threatens to beat him for stealing. This means that both of these characters are brave and caring because they put others above themselves and knew the risks.

Although they are very similar, Lida and Ada can be seen very differently at the same time. One way that these characters are different is because Lida knows what has to be done for her and her friends to survive in the concentration camp. While Ada never really understood what was really happening in their situation. She did not know that the Germans were trying to do bad things until the bombs started dropping and her home was destroyed. Such as the moment in “Making Bombs For Hitler,” Lida knows what will happen to her friends if they go to the hospital and she does everything she can to save them. This is critical to the story because it emphasizes that Lida is more mature. On the other hand, Ada didn’t know what the Nazi’s were actually doing and just wanted to care for her brother. This shows they are different because Lida knew the seriousness of the war.

The conflicts of both stories are vastly alike and unlike. The conflicts in these books are similar because in both books, Lida and Ada are going through a war and protecting their younger sibling. The stories both state that Lida and Ada were going through difficult times with the concentration camps and new home and they want to protect their siblings over everything else. This is critical to realize because it shows how they both went through the hardships of protecting a sibling and themselves at the same time. Thus, the conflicts are similar because they both felt the same way for protecting their siblings and almost a sense of feeling powerlessness when they couldn’t do anything for their siblings or themselves.

On the opposing side, the main conflicts in these stories are very different as well. The conflicts are different because of the lives they lived during the war. For instance, in the text “Making Bombs For Hitler” Lida is put in a camp where she has to think about her sister being ok while not being able to do anything. But in the book “The War That Saved My Life” Ada is put into a nice home with her brother and is taken care of. These pieces of evidence are crucial to think about because it really shows how different they were in many aspects. This proves that they lived different lives because of the adversity they both had to face.

The themes in the stories “Making Bombs For Hitler” and “The War That Saved My Life” Are very similar and almost identical. It was the course that these characters took to get there that is different. The theme that these stories taught were similar because Lida and Ada both learn to have people to support you when you are in a tough situation. For example, Lida ends up finding Luka when she escapes and he helps her and offers to give her a home. Ada learns this because she always thought that she was a burden because that's what she was taught, but her friends helped her see that she was a human being. This is important to see because it shows that they ended in the same place and learned the same thing. This means that they learned the same thing because their friends helped them through hard times that they might not have been able to get through without them.

The themes in these stories might be the same. But the path they took to get there was different. In “Making Bombs For Hitler,” Lida wants to protect her friends and sister, but then she and her sister were taken to concentration camps and she didn’t know where her sister was but she met her friends there. This is solved because she escapes and meets up with her friend Luka after she escapes and he helps her by offering her a home. This is how she learned that in tough situations, have people to support you. On the other hand, in the book “The War That Saved My Life,” Ada wanted to protect her brother and to be free. She was in a home with an abusive mother and then moved to a completely new home where she didn’t know anyone. This was settled when she made new friends like Miss Smith, Maggie, Lady Thorton, and more. These people helped Ada realize she was human no matter her disability. This is how she learned that you need people’s support in tough situations.

In Stella by Starlight ''By Sharon M.Draper and “The Watson's go to Birmingham'' by Christopher Paul Curtis there are many similarities and differences Between the characters, conflicts and themes of the books. In both the books , The Watson's go to Birmingham '' by Christopher Paul Curtis and “Stella by Starlight ''By Sharon M.Draper, they have similar and different characters. Stella and Kenny are similar because they are both nice and caring, but the characters are also different because Kenny Is a coward while Stella is very brave. Both conflicts in the stories are similar because Kenny and Stella are both facing these problems from racial discrimination, but they are different because Kenny’s deals with racism much less than Stella. The themes in the stories are similar because Kenny and Stella learn the importance of their family, but to get this theme they have to go through different problems.Losing or almost losing a family is a big deal,People should not have to go through these things and we need to make sure that we know the importance of our family or we will lose them.

There are many similarities and differences between the themes in the books ¨Between Shades Of Grey¨ and ¨The War That Saved My Life¨. One way the themes in the book ¨The War That Saved My Life¨ and ¨Between Shades Of Grey¨are similar is that Lina and Ada both learn to persevere through hard times. In the book, ¨Between Shades Of Grey¨ Lina had to learn to persevere when her mom died because her mom was the reason she was still alive in the camps. She was crying when she heard the news and started hugging her brother while crying. The next morning she was super sad but then got up because she had to take care of her brother and her mom would want her to do her work. In the book, ¨The War That Saved My Life¨Ada had to persevere through hard times when Ada and her brother woke up and were eating breakfast the day after their mom got them back from Susan. Before her mom went to work she had to stick up for herself and her brother. She told her mom to let them go back to Susan. Ada knew either this would work perfectly or her mom would hit her and she would have to live an even harder life. But at the end, they went back to Susan. These examples prove that Ada and Lina both learn to be patient during hard times because Lina and her brother went through so much and their pain finally ended years later. Ada thought she would be stuck with Mam her whole life but then she allowed them to go back to Susan. One way the themes in ¨Between Shades Of Grey¨and ¨The War That Saved My Life¨are different is that their experiences were different. In the book, ¨Between Shades Of Grey¨Lina lived a happy life with her family but she had to go to camps and had to stay for years and years. In ¨The War That Saved My Life¨, Ada escaped her mom and she didn't go to concentration camps, she went to Susan and lived with her and then had to go back to her mom then back to Susan. This proves that they had different experiences because Ada never went to the camps. Ada was not happy with her family but Lina was happy with her family and went to the camps.

There are many similarities and differences between the conflicts in Zane and the Hurricane and Hurricane song. One way the conflicts are similar is they are both experiencing hurricane Katrina and what it's doing to the people around them. For example in Zane and the Hurricane, Zane was trying to do what he could to help and survive. Zane is around many inhospitable people, who only care for themselves, many people do not want to help and are deathly scared of others. In Hurricane song, James is also experiencing what hurricane katrina is doing to the people. James is very frightened and tries to stay happy. Many people are very aggressive toward others and do not want anything to do with people other than themselves. People are stolen from and bullied. This shows how both Zane, James, and the people around them are affected by Hurricane Katrina. Many people are aggressive, rude, and don't care about others. They are both surrounded by these people and are impacted by the way they act and treat other innocent people. Nevertheless, there are differences between the conflicts in these two stories. One way they are different is Zane is experiencing what it's like outside the SuperDome, and what it's doing to the city and people, while James is Inside the SuperDome, experiencing what it's like inside the people are like inside the SuperDome. For example, In Zane and the Hurricane, Zane was outside the SuperDome when the hurricane hit. Zane was experiencing what the hurricane was like outside the SuperDome, what it was doing to innocent peoples homes and cars and even the people. Many people took advantage of the hurricane, stealing anything they could. But people who were starving and hadn't stolen anything in their life were left with no choices other than to steal. In Hurricane Song, James was inside the SuperDome. After a few days, the toilets got clogged, and people started going wherever they could. The smell of smoke, sweat, urine, feces, blood, and vomit filled the air. People were robbing others, and threatening or hurting people. People burning others belongings, Someone James knew had even killed himself. This proves how these stories are different as one book showcases the tragedies that take place outside the SuperDome, while the other stories tragedies that take place outside the superdome.

“Between shades of Gray” is all about a Holocaust victim named Lila that is taken to a labor/concentration camp by the Nazi's. “Refugee” is a story all about escaping the Nazi's.

In “Between shades of gray,” and “Refugee,” there are differences and similarities between the character, the conflict and the theme.

There are many similarities and differences between the main characters in “Between shades of gray,” and “Refugee”.One way the main characters are different is that Josef the main character of “Refugee” escaped being caught by the Nazi’s, while Lila the main character of “Between shades of gray,” gets caught trying to escape the Nazi’s. For example Lila said they were locked up in animal carts that say thieves and prostitutes. For example Josef finally a boat we can leave and stay as a family because once we're out of Germany we won't be threatened anymore. This evidence proves that Josef got away while Lila got caught while trying to get away because Lila says that she was locked up in a cart that say thieves and prostitutes witch shows that she way caught while we know Josef escaped capture because he stated that they found a boat and they can leave Germany witch means they were able to get away from the Nazi’s. One way the main characters are similar is that they both keep believing that things would eventually get better for them. For example Josef keeps believing that things will get better when the boat keeps breaking and getting tipped over but they continue to sail. For example Lila keeps believing that things will get better when she is sending letters to her father even though she has not gotten a response. This evidence proves that both of them never stopped believing that things would get better for them because it shows how they did not give up no matter there issues like when the boat was flipping over and falling apart on Josef he continued to sail and Lila continued to send letters when she had still not gotten a response from her father.

There are many similarities and differences between the conflicts in “Between shades of gray,” and “Refugee”.One way the conflicts are similar is that they both had the live through and experience the Holocaust. For example Lila had her house broken into and everything broken and messed up and her family was taken by the people nazi’s that had broken in.For example Josef had his house broken into as well but just his father was taken from him but his house was also left in a mess because of the nazi’s.This evidence shows how both of them experience the Holocaust because it explained that both of there houses had been raided and at least one family member taken just because they were Jewish and the nazi's did not like the Jewish people and it was called the night of broken glass a small part of the Holocaust that had effected both of them.

One way the conflicts are different is that Josef from “Refugee” was running away from the Nazi’s but could barely get away from them, while Lila the main character from “Between shades of gray” had to work on the concentration camp for the Nazi’s. For example when Josef got to the boat there when people lined up to get on the boat and some of the people where nazi and Hitler or Stalin supporters so him and his family almost got caught. For example Lila had been woken up and forced out of her house onto a train and to a labor camp where she had to dig a whole at first with basically her bare hands and if she didn't she would get no food. This evidence proves how Lila had gotten captured by the nazi’s and how Josef had managed to escape the nazi’s witch shows how they have different conflicts in there respective stories because one escaped while the other had gotten captured by the nazi’s.
There are many similarities and differences between the theme in “Between shades of gray,” and “Refugee”.One way the themes are similar is that Lila from “Between Shades of Gray” learns how to stay hopeful when in a bad situation and Josef from “Refugee” also learned to stay hopeful in a bad situation. For example Lila keeps on sending letters to her father relentlessly even without a response but she never stopped even when she did get a response from her father. For example Josef keeps on trying to keep the boat upright and stop it from sinking with the others on the boat and no matter how many times the boat almost tipped he would continue. This evidence shows how Lila and Josef both learned how they could stay hopeful when in a bad situation like how Lila keeps sending letters to her father even when she got no response from her father and like Josef trying to keep the boat no matter how many times it wanted to capsize both examples prove how both of them learned to stay hopeful when there in a bad situation.

One way the themes are different is that Josef from “Refugee” had to see others suffering to learn how to stay hopeful when in bad situations while Lila from “Between Shades of Gray”had to lose some of her friends and family before she learned how to stay hopeful when in bad situations. For example when Josef saw the others that would be getting on the same boat he was in shock because he thought he was suffering but there were people that were suffering more than him.For example when Lila found some of the labor camp workers died in the morning she kept telling herself that she must survive and get back home and reconnect my family so that our lives can be normal again but i have to make it out of here first. This evidence proves how the themes are different because Josef had to struggle trying to keep the boat up and keep his family together and seeing everyone else suffering as well while Lila had to see some of the other labor camp members died in the morning because they disobeyed the nazi’s orders and it drove her to make a promise that she would make it back home and reconnect her family both show that they had to go through difference experiences to realize what would help them.
In “Between shades of gray,” and “Refugee,” there are differences and similarities between the character, the conflict and the theme.

Both stories have similar characters because both were effected because of the night of broken glass but

Both stories have similar conflicts because they both had to experience the Holocaust but one was a prisoner one was running.

Both stories have similar themes because both stories teach you that you just have to believe and stay hopeful but they learned this in different ways.

In “Between shades of gray,” shows us the life of a Holocaust labor/concentration camp prisoner while “Refugee,” shows us what is was like to be running from the nazi’s.
