The song is memorizable to perfection to every animal on the farm, because they feel attached to a greater community. On the first stanza Old Major intended to spread the message by appealing to pathos as he appeals to feelings:

“Beasts of England, beasts of Ireland,

Beasts of every land and clime,

Hearken to my joyful tidings

Of the golden future time”.

He promises a greater future for his fellow comrades(“..golden future”), who shall be free and happy. This freedom is what they’ve all dreamed of, because they aren’t even working for their own sake. In stanza 6 the song says: “All must toil for freedom’s sake”. As they want to break free, to work for their own sake. Not only humans want to have meaning in their life, it also applies to animals - especially the ones on Animal Farm. They’ll no longer be oppressed by their cruel rule.

By Helene, Laura, Maria og Sam

Our interpretation of the song: “Beasts of England” is that all animals in England must reunite and toil for freedom’s sake. In the last line in the sixth stanza it says: “All must toil for freedom’s sake”, where “all” refers to different kinds of animals in England. The sixth stanza is in general about the labour animals get exploited to do by the “Tyrant Man”, and how this is preposterous from the animals perspektive. The song is also emotionally charged, because it is embossed by different terrible happenings, that occur in farm animals life for example slaughtering. We can see this in the second stanza, where it says: “Soon or late the day is coming, Tyrant Man shall be o’erthrown”, which refers to the slaughtering mentioned above.

By Jules, Pernulle & Rallemus

The message of “Beats of England” is that all animals shall be free, from the chains of the man. In the 5th verse, it goes “ On the day that sets us free!” Which is a great example of the message, that all animals one will be free. The song gives a good imagery of the land without humans to ruin it, and instead having the animals to control the now “fruitful fields of England “

Jacob, Thomas, Peter, Rasmus Hørup og Agnes Kofoed

The song, “Beast of England”, appeal to the animals feelings of independence and freedom. As we see in stance two, it says: “Tyrant man shall be o’erthrown, and the fruitful fields of England shall be trods by beats alone”, which explain that the animals doesn’t need man. The animals believe that they would be able to run a society without man, and the world would be a better place if they ruled it themselves, as it says in stance five: “Bright will shine the fields of England, purer shall it’s waters be, sweeter yet shall blow it’s breezes, on the day that sets us free”. Here they try to tell how freedom will make the world a better place, even though nothing has changed physically. The song appeals to the same feeling every animal gets when they’re done working a whole day in the field and gets to relax in the stable.

The "Beast of England" paints a picture of the England that will reveal itself, if the animals rebel against Man. In verse five the poem/song is about how much better nature will be after the rebellion:

Bright will shine the fields of England,

purer shall its waters be,

sweeter yet shall blow its breezes,

On the day that sets us free.

This quote paints a picture of a happier and even more beautiful England, if Man was taken away from the animal´s everyday life. It explicitly mentions that this change will occur, when the animals are set free, or befree themselves.

The song, Beasts of England, is about freedom.

We see the how the dream of freedom is alive and evolving in the song -

“Bright will shine the fields of England, pure shall it’s waters be, sweeter yet shall blow its breezes on the day that sets us free” (Page 13, verse 5) This quite surely proves how freedom is described and how important it is towards the farm animals. To get the freedom everybody must work hard - “For that day we all must labour, Though we die before it break; Cows and horses, geese and turkeys, All must toil for freedom’s sake” (Page 13, verse 6) “Ring shall vanish from our noses, and the harness from our back, bit and spur shall rust forever, cruel whips no more shall crack.” (Page 13, verse 3)

First we see how freedom is kind of a feeling, a setting - but as we move on, we see how it would actually affect the animals.
