TINSEL

It's a Christmas decoration made of thin strips of shiny metal foil.

The word tinsel comes from an Old French word “estincele”, which means sparkle/shine (glänzen, glitzern).

In the 16th-century the middle-English word "tinsel" was used for lightweight fabrics with a golden or silver effect. 

Modern tinsel was invented in Nuremberg around 1610.

Olga Kotelko (2 March 1919 – 24 June 2014) was a Candadian athlete.
Kotelko was the 7th of 11 children born to Ukrainian immigrant farmers.
She broke a world record for her age group (90–95 years) in the hammer throw (5.64 metre) and the 100 metre race (23.95 seconds).
Events she did were long jump, triple jump, high jump, discus, javelin, weight throw and the 100-metres, 200-metres and 400-metres and 4 x 100-metre relay sprints. Sometimes she had competition, but there were no other women of her age, so she was the winner. At the age 90 she was the world's oldest known long jump competitor.

Comes from Old Norse oddi meaning "third or additional number". The literal (wörtlich) meaning of oddi is "point of land, angle". 1. warm‑up
We started with a joke about homework, which I read to you (see worksheet column). Then you found your own excuses for not doing the homework. You were very creative!
Then, you had to find a word related to your last holiday (for example: sunny, rainy, interesting, terrible …) and say where you were.

2. false friend of the day
We looked at the German word bekommen and compared it with the English to become.
Bekommen means to get or to receive, NOT to become. 

To become in German is werden. 
We translated example sentences.
Ich habe deine E-Mail bekommen. = I got/received your e-mail.
Es wird kalt draußen. = It’s becoming cold outside.
Das Baby wurde müde. = The baby became tired.
Der Kellner hat viel Trinkgeld bekommen. = The waiter got/ received a lot of tips.

3. re-introduction
I asked questions, each question had four possible answers.
The answers were written on cards and placed in four different corners of the classroom.
You heard the question, then walked to the corner with your answer. When you were in your corner, you formed a group with the other students who chose the same answer. In those groups, you talked about the question together.
Examples:

First letter of your first name: a-f / g-l / m-r / s-z
Then you talked about your name – do you like it, why did you get this name, what is your favourite name.
We did the same with your age, the town/village you live in, your children, your hobbies, your favourite meal of the day, the reason why you learn English etc.

Remembrance/Poppy Day:

This day (also called Armistice Day = Waffenstillstand) is celebrated in the UK and other countries on 11 November.
The poppy is the symbol of Remembrance Day because it grew on the battlefields after World War I. A soldier named John McCrae wrote the famous poem “In Flanders Fields”, which describes poppies growing on the battlefields and soldiers’ graves.

People wear poppies to remember those who died in war and to show respect and hope for peace.

In Germany, there is a different tradition: Volkstrauertag: since 1952, it has been held on the Sunday two weeks before the first Sunday of Advent. Germany does not celebrate the Armistice Day anniversary itself.
