-On December 13, Japanese troops of China's central front army entered the city.

-Before even making it to the city, word was that on the way, Japanese were pillaging and having killing contests.

-Chinese soldiers were hunted and killed by the thousands.

-Entire families were massacred. Even infants and elderly were targeted for execution.

-Tens of thousands of women were raped

-Bodies littered the streets months after the attrack

- At least one third of the city was burned

Nationalist leader , Chiang kai-Shek ordered the removal of nearly all Chinese troops in the city.

-He forbid the official evacuation of civilians.

Nanking was once one of China most prosperous cities and industrial center. It took decades for the city to recover from the events that took place.

-In 1949, it was abandoned as the Nation capital for Beijing.

-It grew into a modern industrialist city during the communist period and is now home to many of China's state-owned firms.

-John Rabe AKA The Good Nazi

-He used his Nazi authority to save 250,000 Chinese from slaughter in Nanking.

-Many Chinese fled to save zones. One was where John Rabe was. Soon the safe zones became just as dangerous.

-Rabe told Japanese that came to kill, to leave.

-The Japanese listened because Rabe had high Nazi authority.

Japan leaders still deny anything happened in Nanking. Many soldiers and some leaders have apologized about the massacres.
