SA = 2 [1/2 (b x h)] + 3 (s x L)

Surface area is the area of every surface on a 3-dimensional figure added together. The area of the triangular base is 1/2 (b x h) and there are 2 bases (top and bottom).
Hence: 2 [1/2 (b x h)]

Next, we still have the rectangular sides. The length of the rectangular sides is L and the width, or side length, is represented as s. The area of a rectangle is (L x W) and the width is s, so it would be (L x s). Note that there are 3 rectangular sides on the prism.
Hence: 3 (s x L)

To get the total Surface Area, we would have to add the triangular areas and the rectangular areas together. Therefore the surface area of the triangular prism is:

SA = 2 [1/2 (b x h)] + 3 (s x L)
