You can also do in-person delivery, preferably to a manager at your future employer. This delivery may allow you to stand out since you are making the physical effort to apply for the job you are seeking. You could mail your cover letter (and resume) but I would not recommend this avenue due to the fast paced application processes and slower mail delivery. Here I would like to study the language. This person starts off by having a "sincere interest" in the intended position and ends the paragraph with a very brief outline of the letter. In the brief outline they say "...which will allow me to contribute toward the success of your organization." This gives me the impression that this person is not in-your-face but a very sincere and wanting to help their prospective organization. It would be wise to match your personality with your resume cover letter and put your best self out there. For example, a candidate is perfect for a position yet their writing is read like a rant due to not sufficient punctuation. The common rhetorical moves that I found in the sample cover letters:
It may not be necessary to include one's specific knowledge regarding the prospective company in the science or healthcare cover letters. In my experience in the health field, this information wasn't necessary but in business this is a detail that can make you stand out.

Two common moves that should be given some thought were Providing one’s phone number to the future employer. and Providing specific times/dates that a candidate can meet with the future employer. Not including your phone number could slow communication and giving specific availability right off could make you seem unwilling to be flexible in the workplace. Depending on the position being applied for, both moves or absences could cause future employers to dismiss your application. You need to know your field. 

The other moves that I mention in my table, highlighting resumes in the cover letter and mentioning your skills that make you suitable, are truly essential to the genre of cover letters. The purpose of a cover letter is to give the condensed and most relevant version of your resume. Your additional skills are like your special qualities that make you stand out in an application process.
