In the graph below, it shows that an average person owns one of all the items listed. people are becoming attatched to electronics and they start to rely on electronic devices everyday for mostly anything. People turn to their phones for comfort, some people dont feel complete if they dont have some sort of electronic device on them. Some people alos feel the need to check their phones more times than needed. This is all part of trying to stay "updated" with society. Everyone wants to know the latest trends and news, etc.

In the graph below, it represents how much company actaully makes in annual revenue from selling a product. This graph shows that more and more people are buying phones whether its a Samsung or an Iphone. This graph also kind of explains that people are always upgrading their phones. Why? People feel the need to have the most lastest technology, its almost as if they are addicted to buying a new and improved phone when its released. Poeple start to feel "left out" when a new phone comes out with better features, they feel they need to stay updated with the rest of the world. Another reason people are constantly upgrading phones would be popularity. in the mind of society and social media if you have, lets say, the newest Iphone then you are instantly more "popular" or "more rich." Having the newest phones shows that you also have money, most phones (Iphones) are almost $1000, therefore not everyone is gonna have that phone because of how expensice it is.

In Fahrenheit 451 there are signs of different types of addiction. For example, Montag is addicted to setting things on fire and seeing things on fire. Throughout the beginning of the book he talks about his experiences about his job being a firefighter he says “It was a pleasure to burn, it was a special pleasure to see things eaten, to see things blackened and changed” (Bradbury 1). He is also addicted to the idea of Clarisse, mostly in the beginning of the book he would talk about seeing her places and talking to her and then one day she is gone and he doesn’t know where she went “And, then, Clarisse was gone. He didn’t know where she was that afternoon, but it was not seeing her somewhere in the world”(Bradbury 29). But as the book goes on, the reader can suspect that Clarisse could have been part of Montag’s imagination. On the other hand, Mildred is clearly addicted to her sleeping pills. She takes so many pills that she has a machine that pumps out her blood and replaces it with new blood so she doesn’t die. Montag confronts her about it and she doesn’t remember taking so many pills “ Maybe you took two pills and forgot and took two more, and forgot again and took two more, and took two more, and you were so dopey you kept right on until you had thirty or forty of them in you”(Bradbury 17). Mildred is also drawn to music and the TV walls. She is always talking about what she heard from the walls, and when she listens to music she drowns herself in the volume, and one day she put on music and it was so loud that Montag felt that he had a concussion “ Music bombarded him at such an immense volume that his bones were almost shaken from their tendons; he felt his jaw vibrate, his eyes wobbled in his head” (Bradbury 42).

In Fahrenheit 451 the addiction of the characters has negative effects. In the end both of their addictions end up tearing apart their relationship.Montag’s addiction to burning things and seeing things on fire caused a lot of unneeded drama within his character. For example, when The Hound found out that he had the Bible and other books in his house, The Hound went after Montag. Montags addiction caused himself internal conflicts. He had to force himself to give up all the books he was hiding in his house. Montag starts to have a connection to water. He no longer wants to burn the books but actually read them and retain the knowledge from them. On the other hand, Mildred also has addiction. Mildreds addiction to her sleeping pills got worse and worse throughout the book and it was another reason that her and Montags relationship was coming to a halt “Mildred came down the steps, running, one suitcase held in a dreamlike clenching rigidly in her fist, as a beetle-taxi hissed to the curb”(Bradbury 125). Mildreds addiction caused her to lose Montag emotionally “...I thought she was my wife, but now I don’t know. And the house all burnt. And my job gone and myself on the run…”(Bradbury 125). Mildred also has an addiction to the TV walls and all she would talk about to Montag was what she had heard from the walls.

Addiction is a disease caused by overuse of a drug or a learned action. Addiction is also really hard to control and can have harmful consequences. People that struggle with addiction and are in recovery have a higher risk to relapse. People who decide to get help with their addiction often look into long term or ongoing treatment so they don’t fall back into the same patterns. In the brain there is something called at “reward circuit” this causes the brain to release a chemical called dopamine. When the dopamine enters the “reward circuit” it causes the person to experience the “high” they want. That is what makes the drug so addicting. The brain then tries to reduce the amount of dopamine being released and this causes that “high” reduce. Overtime the effects of the drug reduces and this causes people to then turn to more dangerous drugs to obtain that high. Doing drugs also has long term effects on the brain and the body. Learning can become more harder or more challenging, this is because your brain starts to focus on getting that drug into the body. Making decisions is also affected,a person might start to make decisions that aren’t very intelligent. Memory also can be effected and become short term over time. Drugs can also control behavior causing mood swings. Some people are more prone to addiction just because of their genes. Gender, ethnicity, and mental disorders can play a part in addiction. A person's environment can also affect whether a person can become addicted. There are many factors including peer pressure, stress,or parental guidance.
