         <title>DigDeep - Challenge Team Leader</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>We're currently looking for a committed student from Birmingham to join us as a volunteer team leader for one of our upcoming charity challenges - climbing either Mt Kilimanjaro or Mt Kenya in Summer 2019.  <br><br></div><div>I’m writing from Dig Deep - a charity founded by student volunteers which provides schools and communities with access to clean water, sanitation, and hygiene training in rural Kenya.</div><div><br></div><div>We are looking for passionate, committed and organised students, and think that the members of the Headucate Society would be very interested in the role (and the subsequent free or discounted travel opportunity).<br><br>More information and a link to apply can be found at<a href="https://www.climbforcleanwater.org/leadagroup">: https://www.climbforcleanwater.org/leadagroup</a><br><br><strong>Deadline for applications is 27th May 2018. </strong>We will be in touch the week following  27th May to arrange an informal interview over the phone.</div><div><br></div><div>The responsibilities of the role will include:<br><br></div><ul><li>Running a recruitment campaign to select a team of dedicated students to attempt the challenge<br><br></li><li>Encouraging the team’s fundraising and ensuring the social cohesion of the group in the build up to the challenge through planning socials<br><br></li><li>Helping support your group during their climb to the summit – pep talks are always handy!</li></ul><div><br></div><div>Our skilled local guides will be there on the ground to arrange logistics and take care of all health and safety aspects, so you will not need mountaineering experience to take on the role. What is essential however is drive, confidence and the ability to motivate others. You will also gain leadership and project management experience crucial for any CV – and, most importantly, you will know that your work has provided clean water to thousands of people.</div><div><br></div><div>In return for the vital work you will be doing throughout the year, your travel costs will be covered if you recruit a team of twenty or more fundraisers for Kilimanjaro or Mount Kenya, and we will also reduce your travel costs if you lead a smaller group. Not bad for a once in a lifetime trip!</div><div><br></div><div>Dig Deep will be there to support you every step of the way. We have years of experience in coordinating challenges and many of us have been challenge leaders in the past. You will receive full training at a residential weekend with other Dig Deep Team Leaders from Universities across the country and ongoing personalised support throughout the year.</div><div><br></div><div><br></div>]]></description>

         <title>Better Pathways - Volunteer</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Better Pathways, a Birmingham charity who help people with mental health problems gain training, voluntary experience and employment. The charity is asking for sponsorship from entries to the Birmingham Half Marathon where they would pay for entry if participants are willing to donate sponsorship money to them.<br><br>Over all this is part of a new scheme they are developing in which local volunteers will be acknowledged with certificates of achievement and gain affiliation to the charity for their volunteering.<br><br>If you are interested, please contact Liz Armstrong at elizabetha@betterpathways.org.uk</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Mental health social workers empower individuals with mental illness—and their families, carers, and communities—to lead fulfilling, independent lives.<br><br></div><div>Through talking therapy, support, and advocacy, they enable people to manage the social factors in their lives—like relationships, housing, and employment—that allow them to get well and stay well. Building resilience in individuals, their networks, and their communities transforms people’s wellbeing and improves our society and economy.<br><br></div><div>People using mental health services can be of any age, and at varying stages of recovery.</div><div><br></div><div>They may be living with a wide variety of illnesses, such as anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and personality disorders. Their mental health problems can sometimes be associated with other issues such as physical illness, addiction, or homelessness.</div><div><br></div><div>The Think Ahead programme focuses on adult mental health services.<br><br></div><div>Social workers can work in a variety of mental health settings. The Think Ahead programme qualifies you for any social worker role*, including work in specialist mental health settings like forensic services and child and adolescent mental health services, but the main focus is on experience in adult community mental health services.
