It wasn't until she had the moment in her room, that she realized she could escape. This can be compared to when Lily feels emotionally trapped while at the Boatwright's house. She was trapped by the fear of telling August about her mom because she feared that she would no longer be able to stay at the house. After May's death, everybody in the house was freed from something, or became free. When she caught a bee, it had stayed in the jar even once it had the chance to escape. Lily, had done the opposite. She took the oppurtunity to leave when it was given to her. Lily is showing contrast by leaving when she had a chance.
