How music is similar to language

Music and language are both analyzed the same way in the brain. When receiving language or music, the brain analyzes the information being received at the same time as predicting the next word or musical sequence, and also comparing it to previous words and musical phrases. This similarity means that the same parts of the brain are used to understand language and music, and thus they have similar impacts on people (Patel).

Reflection Question #1

How does your presentation answer the EQ (How do the texts we read help us better understand the complexities of our world and our place in it?)

My presentation answers the essential question because it shows how much music affects us, and how similar music is to language. Thus, it shows that language has a big impact on how we act and think. Since the brain processes language and music in similar ways, by proving that music can communicate ideas about our world, I am also proving that language can help us understand things about our world. Since language is the basis of all text, text can communicate ideas through language. Some of these ideas may involve the intricacies of our world and our place in it. By reading texts, our brain is trying to process the information we’re receiving along with comparing it to the information we already believe to be true. Thus, as we read text about the world, we try to understand the information we’re receiving, and also how it fits into what we already know about the world. Through this process, we can better understand the complications of the world and also how we fit into it, since we are constantly comparing information. When someone is comparing information about other’s places in the world, they eventually realize their own.

Music is a good way to communicate, because it creates a response in the listeners brain with mirror neurons. This interaction causes the brain to try and recreate the emotional state of what it is hearing, in this case music. Thus, by listening to music, people are able to understand how someone is feeling, or the story they are trying to tell (Ovary and Molnar-Szakacs).

This is a form of presentation that allows you to insert different multimedia into it, along with text, so there are multiple ways to get information across. I think this helps me prove my argument, because it is all about communication, and music is a form of communication. In addition, it allows me to insert music and video into my project, which helps me show real life examples of how music affects people. By showing a picture of my little brothers dancing to music, I am showing how music can make people happier at any age. Therefore, the effectiveness of communicating the ideas in my project is greatly increased by using a padlet, due to the ability to add multimedia.
